Expect traffic for Art on the Green
Volunteers, vendors and organizers for Art on the Green will be on campus this week preparing for the arts festival, which runs Friday, Aug. 4 through Sunday, Aug. 6 on NIC's Coeur d'Alene campus.
Please expect more traffic on campus this week, especially with set-up on Wednesday, Aug. 2 and take-down on Monday, Aug. 7.
Large trailers and trucks will use the Lee-Kildow staff parking lot to access the south side of Cheamkwet Park. NIC Campus Security and event organizers will put up cones to mitigate traffic and safety concerns but recommend that NIC faculty and staff be aware of heavy traffic and limit parking in the LKH parking lot, if possible.
For more information, contact NIC Security at (208) 769-3310.

Alumni Excellence: NIC graduate hired at Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic
Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic is welcoming back a familiar face, Dr. Sierra Temple.
Growing up in Boundary County, she was involved in 4-H and had horses; animals were always part of her life, Temple said. She didn’t consider becoming a veterinarian when she was younger, because nearly every girl in her class said they wanted to do that in elementary school.

The Board of Directors for the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI) recently approved a decrease in the retirement contribution rates beginning July 2023.
This rate decrease will take effect on your July 26 paycheck.
Because Idaho statute 33-107B dictates that employer contribution rates for the TIAA and Corebridge (aka Valic) Optional Retirement Plans (ORP) match PERSI contribution rates, the rate for ORP contributions will also decrease.
*An additional long-term disability insurance is paid by NIC at the rate of .073% for all ORP employees. PERSI employees receive this long-term disability benefit as part of the employer-paid PERSI contributions.
For more information, contact Payroll at payroll@nic.edu.

|
Mark your calendars! Tuesday, Aug. 22 will be NIC’s third annual Cardinal Convocation.
Classes that meet before 4 p.m. will not take place, with the exception of Career Technical Education and Health Professions and Nursing courses.
Cardinal Convocation promotes retention and a sense of belonging for new students at NIC. It is required for First Year Experience students and serves as a celebration of the start of their NIC journey, as well as a formal introduction to the campus community.
Currently, it is only open to students registered for First Year Experience Seminar (CLC-120)*.
We hope all staff and faculty will attend the welcome address at Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center to welcome new students to campus. Students arrive at 9:15 a.m., so please arrive early to cheer them on as they enter!
Those who would like to volunteer for the event can register here. Each volunteer will receive a Cardinal Convocation T-shirt if they do not have one from previous years.
For more information, contact Jillian Gill at (208) 769-3446 or Jillian.Gill@nic.edu

Summer work schedule options for staff
NIC supports employees in balancing their personal lives with their work commitments. In support of this balance, we are encouraging alternate summer work schedules for staff, where the department can support them.
Earlier this year the policy and procedure on Alternate Work Schedules were updated, supporting schedule flexibility.
While alternate work schedules can be worked year-round, a lighter student presence during the summer may allow for greater flexibility, while still providing a high-quality student experience and supporting educational opportunities. Summer alternate schedule options are intended to provide employees in staff positions more opportunity to take advantage of longer daylight hours, warmer weather and summer breaks for students of all ages.
More details are available in the Alternate Work Schedules Guideline on the HR portal. Interested employees should discuss options with their supervisor.
