ON VIEW AT KEHLER LIDDELL GALLERY

Kehler Liddell Gallery presents:

SEMINAL JOURNEYS:

GAR WATERMAN AND FRANK BRUCKMANN

Opening Reception:

Saturday, June 1st, 3-6pm.

Frank and Gar will give an Artist’s Talk @ 4pm.

Exhibit runs until June 23.

KLG's hours of operation are Thurs-Sun, 12-5pm

Westville OG’s, Frank Bruckmann and Gar Waterman suffuse the Kehler Liddell Gallery this month with their exhibit, Seminal Journey*. Bruckmann interprets his perspective of CT highways and busy roads through his paintbrush; Waterman’s wonder of nature and obsession with exquisite organic forms is expressed with stone carvings of feral seeds.

*Westvillians may recall their last exhibit together in Feb 2013, the sumptuous Nudes and Nudibranchswhen opening day was heralded by winter storm Nemo that dumped 30+” of snow! New Haven foisted a parking ban, so only guests who walked, xc skied or snowshoed came to the event. Some guests sculpted the snow on the sidewalk into a huge nudibranch (sea slug-google it!) with Gar. Treat yourself and make your way to the opening or plan a visit; their work together packs a wallop as big as a winter storm Nemo!

SIGN UP FOR CLASSES AND READ MORE HERE

On Friday, May 24th at 1:30PM, the 4th-8th grade students of Elm City Montessori School (a PreK3-8th grade public school in New Haven, anchored in our Anti-Bias Anti-Racist Montessori philosophy) will again be planning and leading an action at the corner of Whalley and West Rock Ave (Closest Address: 838 Whalley Ave, New Haven). We've invited neighborhood schools and the general public to join us. There will be parallel actions happening in PreK-3rd grade classrooms earlier in the day. Visit our website to see some press coverage from last year.

Our students are working this month to focus on projects of passion, to study themes of social justice that personally resonate (ex. LGBTQ advocacy, climate change, community safety, affordable housing), to connect to local New Haven challenges. Some classrooms are specifically studying the history and legacy of the Birmingham Children’s Crusade of 1963. Students will create picket signs, others may write speeches, poetry or songs, all will march together in solidarity.

Children from several New Haven schools will gather and share their vision for our community, our city, our world. Join us to listen, spotlight, and elevate what our children see and believe.

WESTVILLE MUSIC BOWL PRESENTS:

BLEACHERS WITH SAMIA

June 7

Doors: 5:30 PM / Show: 7:00 PM

Few 21st century artists have had the cultural impact of Jack Antonoff. Through his work as a producer for artists like Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, The 1975 and Lorde, he’s won eight Grammys to date and filled album of the year lists with records like Norman Fucking Rockwell! and Folklore. For years critics have wondered how his work is so successful and what defines it when it doesn’t quite sound like anything else (Antonoff ignores what’s on trend, even when that’s his last project). His methodology, he reveals, is the same for his production work as it is for writing his music with Bleachers: “The great journey and struggle of creating your sound is to drill further and further into it, while the whole time shocking yourself and the people around you.”

Keith Richter Photographs at BEKI

The nature photographs of Westville resident Keith Richter are featured in the upstairs gallery at Congregation Beth El - Keser Israel through May 26.

Richter's photography is a blend of his two passions: abstract art and nature. His process incorporates a deep appreciation for the natural world, using his camera lens as the means to a stronger connection with what he sees in nature. He seeks to capture the ways in which abstract art mimics nature through shapes, colors, and patterns.

To view the exhibit at BEKI, email art@beki.org, or call the BEKI office at (203) 389-2108 x114.
