The Argentinian Choir of Minnesota

The Argentinean Choir (Coro Argentino) of Minnesota was founded in April of 2022 to promote Argentinean music outside of Argentina and give its members a space of belonging, in reconnection with their culture and roots, and a home away from home. Currently, the choir has 17 members of different nationalities and 3 accompanying musicians. The choir has sung at different community events in Minnesota, receiving a very enthusiastic welcome and feedback.

Its conductor and founder, María Claudia Benarôs, is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has sung in choirs since age 6. She started her musical journey at the renowned Collegium Musicum in Buenos Aires, and continued at the Buenos Aires Conservatory of Music Manuel de Falla. Afterwards, she went to the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, Israel, and graduated with honors in violin performance from Augsburg University in Minnesota. In addition, she is a Kindermusik instructor and Suzuki pedagogy instructor. María is currently pursuing her Masters’ degree in choral and orchestra conducting at the University of La Rioja, Spain.

"Deep Origins" / "Orígenes Profundos"

from Gaby Grobocopatel

Gaby Grobocopatel was born in 1966 in Carlos Casares, a small town in the Pampas, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Her profound love for her hometown has inspired her to create a personal iconography based on the collection of images that she saw daily while living and exploring the environs of her town. Her deep appreciation for her homeland is evident in her work, which reflects not only nature but also the stories of her cultural ancestors.

In this new series of works, the infinite horizon of the Pampas is presented as metaphysical and disturbing, as a vertiginous axis that confuses the spectator’s vision. It is a horizon that suggests more than what appears. The artist uses condensed shapes and colors in her search for the internal feeling and external appearance of the vastness, the silence and the poetry of these unique large spaces. In some paintings, the line that divides heaven and earth and the concrete and the magical appears to be undulated as nature and humanity become embedded in the mystery of creation. She looks for the inner feeling beyond the external appearance of these wide open vistas, where nature symbolizes specific gestures and silent spaces and the simplest thing acquires prominence. The horizon is a symbol of the future, for goals unattained, yet waiting to be accomplished.

Showing until July 30th, 2024.

Group show: "Misshapes"

Majo Caporaletti, Candelaria Fernández Coya, Emilia Hendreich,

Belén López de Carlo and Francisco Ratti

Praxis is pleased to present Misshapes, a group exhibition by the Argentine artists Majo Caporaletti, Candelaria Fernández Coya, Emilia Hendreich, Belén López de Carlo y Francisco Ratti.

In Misshapes, what we perceive as real loses its natural form. Majo Caporaletti, Candelaria Fernández Coya, Emilia Hendreich, Belén López de Carlo, and Francisco Ratti collectively explore the distortion of everyday references as a means of communication. Here, deformity transcends negative connotations: it becomes a transformative process through which the artists comment on what surrounds us. Our present and our reality are in this exhibition filtered through fantasy.

Misshapes brings together five contemporary Argentine artists who deform what we conceive as real. What we consider figurative, each of them approaches in an intimate and personal way. Their collective works encourage viewers to look beyond surface appearances, training our gaze to seek authenticity through these transformative distortions. Through these deformations, we learn about our own existence. Text by Lucía Matusevich

JUAN CARLOS BAGLIETO & LITO VITALE in NYC !!

Juan Carlos Baglietto is an Argentine musician, singer and composer. He is one of the iconic figures of the musical movement called Trova Rosarina, a famous generation of singers and composers based in the city of Rosario, who came to prominence during the 80's, and were famous for their groundbreaking work in pop music, with a sound rooted in rock, tango and "folklore argentino".

Héctor Facundo Vitale, known as Lito Vitale, is an Argentine musician, composer and arranger. In the 1990s, Vitale recorded several tango standards with Juan Carlos Baglietto, and was awarded a Latin Grammy for their collaboration in 2000.

They have played so many songs together, so many albums they have made as a duo in the last 32 years, they still have so much to share that when it comes to putting together a new show, there are endless artistic ideas to share with their audience. Baglietto and Vitale continue to surprise so much by “intervening” songs that still they had not played as if revisiting the countless already known classics.

The idea of this “New show” is to meet again with the people who have followed them for so many years, trying to surprise them with some new songs, excite them with the usual tangos and the new ones, enjoy sharing the show with two of their children, Julián and Jano and renew the happiness of making music together!
