Winnipeg, MB - August 2, 2024 - Assiniboia Downs (“ASD”) is gearing up for an electrifying Manitoba Derby program on Monday, August 5, 2024. This year's event will feature a full eight-race card with significant wagering opportunities, including the highly anticipated mandatory payout of the Jackpot Pick 5.
The Jackpot Pick 5 has a massive carryover of $444,577, and the pool is estimated to exceed $1 million. The wager will be available on the last five races of the program. Additionally, there will be the $100,000 guaranteed Pick 4 in race 5 and the Classic Hi-5 in race 7 which has a carryover of $20,571.
The ceremonial draw for the Manitoba Derby was held this morning at the annual press conference that was broadcast live on YouTube. The race will have a field of nine with U.S. based invader, Awesome Road, listed as the 7-5 morning line favourite.
The evening will include the $50,000 Harvey Warner Manitoba Mile and the $50,000 Escape Clause Stakes, both promising some tough competition with large fields of nine horses in each race.
The Downs is also pleased to announce that the Federal quarantine has now been lifted after the final testing results this week. The quarantine was implemented following a single isolated case of an equine virus in June. The swift action of all involved ensured the immediate containment of the situation, with no further cases reported.

The first race will go off at 7:30 PM Central / 8:30 PM Eastern on Monday. Racing continues on Tuesday and the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday schedule will resume as of August 12.
