We are looking for an energetic qualified candidate to work 20-25 hours per week primarily to help with delivery and/or pick up from off-site locations such as schools, lesson programs, and homes. We are looking for someone who enjoys driving and interacting with teachers and families.
Additionally, this position will work in our store front which involves answering phones, helping walk-in clients, assisting with instrument refurbishments, and minor instrument repairs as well as helping clients looking to purchase instruments or supplies.
Candidate must have a high school diploma (some college preferred), valid drivers license, and good driving record. Bilingual and orchestral music experience are a plus. See Job Description below for more details.

We are beyond excited to announce the formation of the Cadence String Quartet. This ensemble will provide an intimate string quartet experience through a series of four concert cycles this coming year. We would like to invite you to join us for this inaugural season. John Schultz, violin, is delighted to be joined by three outstanding musicians. Rachel Peters on violin, Alyssa Ottmar on viola and Joshua DeVries on cello. You can read more about them below. This year we will showcase some of the most enjoyable, epic and engaging repertoire for this ensemble. To join in on this experience use the links below to purchase! To keep this experience intimate, seating is limited. We will typically have a Saturday evening performance at our home with seating limited to about 25. This experience will include the performance as well as appetizers and refreshments. We will also offer a Sunday afternoon performance at Schultz Strings where seating is limited to 40. Pricing for each set will be $35 for the Saturday evening concert and $25 for Sunday afternoon.

John Schultz, violin
John enjoys a multifaceted career in the music industry. John is founder and president of Schultz Strings which serves the string instrument needs of players, students and supporters around the Midwest and beyond. In addition to leading the company John restores and identifies instruments and teaches. He is a proponent of music education and the Suzuki method having taught in his school, the Preucil School of Music, Cornell College and has founded many summer music festivals and several youth orchestras such as the Kettle Moraine Youth Orchestra and the Corridor Youth Orchestra. His students have earned scholarships to major conservatories around the country and have been featured through opportunities such as NPR's From the Top and the National Youth Orchestra. As a performer John has appeared as a member of many orchestras and performed with many chamber ensembles including the Arreaux String Quartet and Corridor Piano Trio. He is a regular recitalist with collaborators and appears regularly as a soloist. He has earned a BM and MM from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in music studying violin with Myron Kartman. He has studied Suzuki pedagogy with Nancy Jackson, Alice Joy Lewis, Mark Bjork and William Preucil Sr.. John has studied instrument restoration with Mark Messer and David Pope. Aside from music, John builds bespoke furniture and cabinetry through his company, Coda Woodworking. John is
a Rotarian and very involved with the District 5970 youth exchange program. Most importantly, John is husband to Rebecca and two amazing kids. He most typically performs on an early violin made c.1550 in Brescia, Italy.

Rachel Peters, violin
Rachel Peters is an active performing musician in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Peters is the current Concertmaster of Opera in the Ozarks and serves as a member of the violin section in Orchestra Iowa and Quad City Symphony Orchestra. She holds teaching positions for violin, viola, and piano at various Chicago music institutions including Music House, Inc., Access Contemporary Music, MY Piano Study, and Terra Sounds School of Music. She has performed as a guest musician with many groups, including the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, and Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Peters is an advocate for contemporary music. She has performed the music of Steve Reich through multiple residency programs, where she worked extensively with the composer. She has also performed with the International Contemporary Ensemble. She is the violinist in Deaf Rabbit Duo, a contemporary chamber music group that aims to increase accessibility to modern audiences through contemporary music in Chicago.

Alyssa Ottmar, viola
A native of Coralville, Iowa, Alyssa grew up playing piano and viola at the pedagogical Preucil School of Music in Iowa City. She studied viola with Bill Preucil Sr. and chamber music with Doris Preucil. Alyssa went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in 2016 with a degree in Viola Performance from the studio of Dr. Julia Bullard. Her musical success earned her the Music Meritorious Award and Conspicuous Award upon graduation. Alyssa has performed across the state of Iowa, the Chicago Symphony Center, Severance Hall, throughout the United States and across Europe, performing with the Nueva Orchestra Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca, România and most recently in Great Britain. Currently, Alyssa plays with Orchestra Iowa and Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony.

Josh DeVries, cello
Cellist Josh DeVries is a dedicated teacher who’s maintained a private studio since high school. Having studied Suzuki pedagogy with Tanya Carey, he enjoys working with students of all backgrounds and has given guest lectures and classes at Brown University, ICEBERG Festival (Vienna), and the Smithsonian American Art Institute, among others. A frequent performer of new music, Josh regularly commissions and performs works from the last several years. In addition to recent concerto appearances with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, he has performed with Ying Quartet, International Contemporary Ensemble, and the JACK Quartet. He is currently recording a solo album of new music for solo cello, but in the meantime he can be heard playing Carlos Simon’s Lickety Split on the album “My Ancestor’s Gift” as well as an upcoming recording of John Luther Adams’s Sila: The Breath of the World. Josh’s former teachers include Richard Hirschl and Richard Aaron; he is currently finishing a PhD in Music Theory from the University of Michigan, writing about George Crumb’s string quartet Black Angels.
