At YMCA Camp Timbers, campers spend their days swimming in Piper Lake, scaling the climbing wall, riding horses, and hiking the trails. They are meeting new people, forming friendships, and learning lots of physical skills, but they’re also developing other skills, like determination, perseverance, and teamwork, that are hard to measure. At YMCA Camp Timbers, counselors serve as mentors and encourage campers to challenge themselves. We encourage them to try every activity and practice setting goals to help them overcome their fears.
Autumn, a returning camper, challenged herself to reach a higher swimming level! She made it her goal to reach blue, the highest level, and she did! “I am so proud of my daughter accomplishing moving to blue in the swimming program. To hear that she jumped into the water out of her boat is amazing,” said Jennifer, Autumn’s mother.
What helped her succeed? Autumn said her counselors and fellow campers made all the difference! Their encouragement gave her the confidence she needed during the swim test. Autumn’s mother is thankful for the experiences her daughter has had at YMCA Camp Timbers. “Her experiences keep growing and growing,” said Jennifer. “From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for bringing out the kid in my kid!”
