Dear Southernites and Friends:
I would like to thank Professor Sonya Hester, President of the Southern University at Shreveport Faculty Senate, for inviting me to participate in the Statewide Higher Education Forum last night in Shreveport. She and the entire Faculty Senate are to be commended on a superb event. I had the honor of serving on the panel with SUBR Professor, Dr. Albert Samuels, along with a fantastic cast of scholars and community leaders from throughout the State of Louisiana. Last night’s event was one of several forums being held simultaneously around the State to bring awareness of the importance of higher education. I was particularly pleased to see so many SUSLA students in the audience, who were deeply engaged in the dialogue and asked very insightful questions. Kudos to SUSLA Chancellor Rodney Ellis for hosting this forum at SUSLA’s Metro Campus.
I look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow for the Homecoming Parade. As you know, the parade was postponed Homecoming Day due to Hurricane Nate. Tomorrow is also High School Day and I want to thank all of our Alumni Chapters throughout the State and Country who have worked with local high schools and are sponsoring buses of students to attend what I know will be an exciting and informative day on the Bluff.
Congratulations to our senior football players as this will be their last home football game at Mumford Stadium. Thank you for the gridiron thrills you have given us over the years. Best of luck on the remainder of the season, and we look forward to you joining our ranks as Alumni in the near future...
