APRIL 8, 2024 - TOTAL ECLIPSE

Dear RITIS Customer,

A total solar eclipse will occur on April 8, and it will be visible across several states. This is a rare opportunity for observation. To prepare for the event, we have added to the Traffic Map a new Eclipse layer that includes two sub-layers. The first sub-layer, Path of Totality, shows a static outline of the path that the eclipse will follow. The second sub-layer, Umbra, will show the position of the total eclipse in real-time. NOTE: The Umbra layer will not appear until the actual time of the Eclipse, which will be observed in the US from approximately 2:20 pm - 3:40 pm ET.

To enable the Eclipse layer, go to the Traffic Map (https://ritis.org/traffic/traffic_map) and select the Eclipse checkbox from the Layer List.

Prior to April 8, 2024, you will have access to the Path of Totality sub-layer.
On the morning of April 8, 2024, you will have access to both the Path of Totality and the Umbra sub-layers.
To turn off a sub-layer, simply select the checkbox located next to each option.
You can adjust the opacity of each sub-layer by clicking the left arrow icon next to the sub-layer checkbox.
To investigate the impact this event may have on the roads, you can use the new Eclipse layer with the Probe Speed Data layer. By enabling both the Probe Speed Data layer and the Eclipse layer, you can see the traffic changes before, during, and after the event.

Within the Probe Speed Data layer, you can view Speed, Comparative Speed, Congestion, and Average Congestion.
Within the Congestion source, you can hide the high-performance roads by selecting the Congestion Only option.
If you need help with any of the RITIS tools or with gathering data after the Eclipse event, we've got you covered. Our team of experts is always ready to assist you in any way possible. Simply send us a message at support@ritis.org, and we'll ensure that you get the assistance you need.
