Additionally, this year, Ford DSFL expanded its reach by offering the program to State Highway Safety Offices. This October, teens and caregivers in San Antonio will get hands-on experience and education with an additional event sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“The Governors Highway Safety Association, through our partnership with Ford Philanthropy, is giving State Highway Safety Offices the opportunity to bring this potentially life-saving experience to more teens in more areas," said GHSA CEO Jonathan Adkins.

Thank you to TxDOT for partnering with us to bring our training sessions to Texas!

Safety in Mobility” event at Central Hardin High School in Cecilia, KY,

In July, the Ford DSFL team piloted a smaller “Safety in Mobility” event at Central Hardin High School in Cecilia, KY, that promoted safe interactions between drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Teens learned about vulnerable road users and experienced the “Dutch reach” technique to avoid cyclists and pedestrians when opening doors in busy, urban areas. Electric scooter safety was also taught through an interactive course, and the teens also got behind the wheel for the distracted and impaired driving course.

Can’t make an in-person, hands-on training this year? We offer an online Academy with a variety of safe-driving videos and simulations as well as tips and quizzes. Teen participants receive a certificate upon completion of the Academy. Register now to access this online training tool.
