NEPTA News and Events
November 2022

Dear Colleagues,
NEPTA’s season is already going strong! We’ve had two fantastic back-to-back events in October - a packed afternoon of Halloween performances, and Dr. Mathilde Handelsman’s presentation on the “Forgotten French Impressionists.” Our Halloween recitals had an unprecedented number of students participating. Many thanks to Shizue Sano, recital chair, and the volunteer teachers, for running everything so smoothly. Thanks as well to all the participating teachers who entered students in this recital.
Coming up in November, we look forward to our annual teachers’ masterclass with Tanya Gabrielian, and three outstanding NEPTA members performing. We also are looking forward to the Music for Hope recital, on Zoom. Many thanks to Diana Tetzlaff for running this program, and bringing hope to so many young students!
I look forward to seeing you all soon.
Best wishes,
Sivan Etedgee
President

Hailed by the London Times as a “pianist of powerful physical and imaginative muscle”, Tanya Gabrielian has captivated audiences worldwide with her gripping performances. She has performed on four continents in acclaimed venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Sydney Opera House, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, and the Salle Cortot in Paris, with such orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Boston Pops, and London Sinfonia. In addition to the traditional concert stage, Tanya is passionate about inspiring new generations of musicians and music lovers in diverse settings, dedicated to community engagement, education, and activism through art.
Tanya’s interests have always been diverse. Admitted to Harvard University to study biomedical engineering at the age of sixteen, Tanya instead pursued a career in music, completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Royal Academy of Music in London, originally studying both piano and viola.
