Fast forward to now. Does it seem like most of your job falls into that category?

This conference will be all about overcoming challenging circumstances and forging your own trail to success.  Make your plans to join us in Gainesville on April 26th!

NEFLIN Road Show

We're bringing the training to you!

The library world has changed over the past few years. It's harder and harder for folks to leave the workplace for workshops due to tighter staffing realities. NEFLIN has gently eased back into in-person workshops, but we know that it can be a challenge to get away for training.

That's why we've created the NEFLIN Continuing Education Roadshow - to bring the training to you! In 2024, we’re coming out to more member libraries to present in-person workshops from your favorite NEFLIN trainers AND some new faces.

Our first batch of workshops are all over the NEFLIN region – Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Gainesville, Cocoa – with more to come!

Check out these first four Road Show events and register today!

Mother Goose on the Loose with Betsy Diamant-Cohen: 2/21/24 in St. Augustine

The Challenging Patron Workshop with Steve Albrecht: 2/27/24 in Cocoa

A Non-Techie’s Guide to Artificial Intelligence in the Library with Nick Tanzi: 3/6/2024 in Gainesville

Intensive Grant-seeking Workshop for Libraries with Bess de Farber: 3/19/24 in Jacksonville

Strategic Marketing in Campaigns

with Ned Potter

Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024

10:00 - 11:30 am

Online

This is a hands-on and interactive workshop which breaks library marketing down into manageable chunks, free from gimmicks. Above all the focus is on tying your library promotion together into effective marketing campaigns.

We'll look at marketing strategically as a non-profit organisation, and then work on segmenting your audience and tailoring messages for each group. We'll also look at how to distribute your messages via social media and other channels, before tying everything together in a strategic marketing plan. Delegates will get a template marketing campaign document to work on in the session and then take back to their own institutions to develop.

Everything in this training is designed to be applicable right away, whether you want to better communicate the value of a particular service, or to market your entire library.

30 Years of NEFLIN

For 2023-2024, we are celebrating 30 years of NEFLIN, and let's face it: no one is more synonymous with NEFLIN than our Executive Director, Brad Ward. In fact, you may think that when NEFLIN appeared, so did Brad!

Brad, though, is NEFLIN's second fearless leader, following in the footsteps of Dave Whisenant, who directed NEFLIN from April 1993 until October 1997. You might know Dave from his current position as Assistant Director of Library Relations at Florida Virtual Campus - Library Services.

That means that in October 2024, Brad will celebrate 27 years of leading NEFLIN.

Let's all give our Executive Directors a virtual round of applause...they have provided NEFLIN not just with vision, but also with a stability and consistency that has allowed our organization to thrive.

Member Spotlight:

Swisher Library @The Bolles School

NEFLIN Staff enjoyed a recent visit to the Swisher Library at The Bolles School in Jacksonville.

Bolles is a private college preparatory day and boarding school spread across four campuses, including an Upper and Lower School on the banks of the St. Johns River, a second Lower School in Ponte Vedra, and a Middle School in the Arlington area of Jacksonville.

And we found a familiar face at Bolles!

Former director of Flagler College's Proctor Library, Brian Nesselrode, is embarking on a new adventure as the Upper School Librarian at Bolles. Assisting him is Beth Morgan.

Thanks, Brian and Beth, for a great visit!

These projects were funded either under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services or the Library Cooperative Grant program. Florida’s LSTA and LCG programs are administered by the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2023-24, the total state and federal budgets for NEFLIN's programs are $694,693. 42% of the total costs ($294,693) are supported by federal funds, and 58% of this program ($400,000) is supported by state funds.
