The success of the 2016 Management Training Institute (MTI) has spurred us into action. Pending funding approval, NEFLIN is going to host the MTI again in 2017.

Our initial plan was to hold this once every few years, but the overwhelming response from the 2016 participants had us put this on the front burner.

Anyone currently employed by a NEFLIN member library who has zero to five years of library management experience can apply. Stay tuned for more information.
Librarian Olympics: Top 10
Annual Meeting Olympics Logo
Congratulations to the Top 10 who will be participating in the Librarian Olympic Games at the NEFLIN Annual Meeting.
On July 26, 2016, the top 25 qualifiers spent the morning working through a list of fifty items for a scavenger hunt.  This was a test of their knowledge, endurance, and street smarts.
Twenty-five items could be found in their library and twenty-five items outside the library. Here's a shout out to to Pam Picray for finding all fifty items in the time allotted.
We'll be posting photos on  NEFLIN's Facebook page throughout the month of August from the hunt.
Wanted: Silent Auction Baskets

A Silent Auction will be held on  September 23  at the NEFLIN Annual Meeting to benefit the  Jim Morris Continuing Education Fund . We invite you or your library to donate a basket to be auctioned at the meeting.

To contribute your basket:
  • Complete the ONLINE FORM
  • Put together a wonderful basket. It can be a themed basket (for example cooking or travel related items), books, DVDs or CDs, a work of art, crafts, jewelry, gift cards or any items of your choice. Donations of varying values are encouraged and welcome.
  • Click here to see baskets from previous meetings
If you don't have time to put a basket together you can make a tax deductible donation to the fund.  You can do so at the link below:
The fund provides an opportunity for individuals employed in NEFLIN member libraries to apply for a stipend of up to $500 to be used towards library related conferences, training, professional development or classes that contribute to the continuing education of the applicant.

So far in fiscal 2015-16, $4,200 has been awarded to members (just like you!)

Spotlight on St. Johns Country Day School

St. Johns Country Day School
The Heinrich Learning Resource Center (HLRC), the library of St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park, Florida, first opened its doors in the fall of the 2003-2004 school year. Prior to that year, the library was housed in the main administration building. The center is designed as a multi-function building enabling up to three classrooms, numerous individual students, and faculty members to engage in various educational and research tasks simultaneously. The library functions as a true Learning Commons with the knowledge that if students are to be future-ready, they need a collaborative space in which to engage with each other and information in all its formats. The space and resources support the HLRC vision of "Educating our diverse community to be effective users of information through comprehensive, quality materials, services, and instruction of the research process."
The HLRC houses an extensive book collection in addition to vast electronic resources for students and staff in grades
PK-12. A large MakerSpace for the school community to engage in the design process for project and problem-based learning is part of the library, supporting the connection between information, media, and design literacies.

The library is run by Librarian and Information Specialist Lucretia Miller (MLIS), who also serves as president of the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME), the professional association for school librarians in Florida. Lucretia also serves on the Curation Corps for the Open eBook initiative, part of the White House connectED initiative.
