Navigating the Future

of Association Management

Save the date for this year's Fall Meeting, "Navigating the Future of Association Management" on December 4 and 5.

We're so excited to host this year's fall conference in Portland. It's been a while since we've been able to visit our colleagues in Maine!

Portland is just over 100 miles from Boston -- a short drive for two days of networking, education, and good times in a great city. Perhaps you can grab a bottle of Moxie as you stroll through the Old Port.

The Education Committee is putting the final touches on sessions now. There's still time to share your suggestions for a panel presentation. Submit your proposal by September 29. If you're an industry partner member, we'd love to hear from you!

Our host hotel is the Doubletree by Hilton Portland. They deserve a big thank you for their help putting the conference together this year.

Keep an eye out for information about registration and hotel room rates!

Nevada Congressional District Writes to FTC in Impersonation Fraud

After advocacy from ASAE’s members and the ASAE Public Policy team, last week the Nevada Congressional delegation wrote a delegation letter to the FTC calling on them to take action on the issue of fraudulent business impersonation. According to the letter, business and government impersonators cause damages estimated at $2.6 billion in economic losses in 2022 alone — a nearly 50-percent increase over 2021.

Naylor's 2023 Association Benchmarking Report Available

Based on results from the 2023 survey, the report provides an in-depth look at the current state of association member engagement, shares best practices based on historical progress and future trends, and helps associations in crafting a strategy that provides value and increases revenue.

This year, the survey uncovered that associations are facing evolving challenges, including the pursuit of generating non-dues revenue, the need for customized communications and a multitude of association and member needs that require more attention.

Better People Skills, Better Association

Whether your association has an entire team or you’re a staff of one, there is a common ingredient you need to succeed: PEOPLE SKILLS. The ability to negotiate, create cohesiveness, and encourage discussion is critical to achieving your objectives.

Good facilitation skills help all parties in negotiations, building ideas and having effective discussions. Improving these skills is what this educational series, “Strengthen Your Facilitation Skills: Enhancing Your Impact as an Association Professional” aims to help you do. Facilitation skills can elevate quiet voices, seek new beneficial outcomes, or harness creativity that leads to better results.

Honing and applying focused facilitator skills will help you do all these things and more. This series will introduce you to the role and techniques of effective facilitation while arming you with opportunities to practice and hone these facilitation skills – including probing, bridging, synthesizing and reflective listening. What’s more is you’ll receive feedback on how you can improve.

Over the course of the three-session series, participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of how to map out a facilitation process that helps a group work through common needs, such as brainstorming, problem-solving and consensus-building
  • Create follow-up assignments in between sessions that expose you to opportunities to practice your facilitation skills and techniques in real-life settings, and
  • Share your experiences with peers to develop a richer learning experience

This program earns 1.5 CAE hours per session, for a total of 4.5 hours for the full program.
