A Note from the New Management Team

After attending the NE/SAE Annual Meeting earlier this month, I am very excited to be working with all of you—the association and industry partner members and suppliers that make up this dynamic organization. A huge thank you to all of the committee volunteers, previous management staff, the wonderful team at Hotel Viking, and our exhibitors and sponsors who helped make the recent event such a success.

A reminder to download any of the provided speaker handouts from NE/SAE's EventMobi app, and check out the conference photo gallery to view images shot by the talented David Fox!

As NE/SAE navigates the transition of new staff and office location, I am confident that some of the most important aspects of this society will remain unchanged: quality professional development and relationship-building opportunities within our profession. I consistently saw both of these occur during our time together in Newport. I look forward to getting to know you further and learning how we can best capitalize on these areas.

Please feel free to reach out to us with comments or questions anytime. I can be reached at executivedirector@nesae.org, and you may also contact Claire Lissitzyn, Association Administrator at office@nesae.org with program and membership questions. As a reminder, the new office contact information is below. Looking forward to connecting!

Are You Interested in Hosting a NE/SAE in the Neighborhood?

NE/SAE is looking for hosts for upcoming NE/SAE in the Neighborhood events! NE/SAE in the Neighborhoods are short, informal meetings for members to get together for networking and to learn more about the host property. Attendees will be current NE/SAE members and non-members.

Industry Partner members can sponsor an event with a networking reception of no more than two hours at your property. This is a great opportunity to showcase your venue and to connect with the NE/SAE community in your area.

5 Ways For Civil Society To Engage With AI

Nonprofit Times

We all woke up one morning to the possibility of chatting with our computers to access information, and generative AI suddenly seemed to be everywhere, ushering in a transformative experience. However, we quickly learned its limitations and memorized the necessary caveats.

Stories surfaced reminding us of its pitfalls — from a lawyer citing fabricated court cases (https://bit.ly/3uQGf6o) to harmful advice delivered by an AI bot replacing a nonprofit’s helpline (https://bit.ly/3SNuO7D).

The steady drumbeat of new features continues. AI is now a core part of Microsoft’s suite. At Google, Bard became Gemini. Everywhere, we find AI in the tools we’ve been using for years offering to summarize threads for us. The question now is — what do we do with all this?

The answer: Use it.

A New Lens for 7 Measures of Success

Keith Skillman, CAE, Published by ASAE

Nearly two decades ago, a red book published by ASAE captured seminal research. It became an instant classic by defining a framework of disciplines embodied in high-achieving associations. As the ASAE Research Foundation takes a new look at that research, its view is firmly focused on the future.

Do the contents of 7 Measures of Success: What Remarkable Associations Do That Others Don’t, published by ASAE & the Center for Association Leadership 18 years ago, have more lessons to share? Thought leaders organized through the ASAE Research Foundation think so, but only as viewed through a refreshed lens that reflects a future likely to be characterized by change far more dynamic than most could have fathomed in 2006.
