FCBA President Mitch Katz attended the 2018 Second Circuit Judicial Conference in Saratoga Springs.

The reenactment of the 1873 trial of Susan B. Anthony came to Syracuse on the evening of April 19, 2018, drawing a crowd or more than 100 people to the Ceremonial Courtroom of the James M. Hanley Federal Building.

Gioia Gensini has been a clerk for more than 35 years at the federal courthouse in Syracuse, first with the Hon. Edward M. Conan (1982-1987), followed by the Hon. Gustave J. Di Bianco (1987-2010), and finally with Hon. Andrew T. Baxter since 2010.

A changing of the guard is scheduled to take place at the NDNY Clerk’s Office this summer. On August 3, 2018, current Clerk of Court Larry Baerman will retire; current Chief Deputy Clerk John Domurad will take Larry’s place as Clerk of Court; and current Chief Deputy Clerk for Court Operations Dan McAllister will take John’s place as Chief Deputy Clerk (while retaining his prior duties).

On May 23, 2018, trial began in Syracuse in the prosecution of Peter Farnum, a former Saratoga County Sheriff’s Deputy who had been indicted on one count of Possession of Child Pornography. Farnum, age 41, appeared in the chambers of Senior U.S. District Judge Norman A. Mordue with retained counsel Cheryl Coleman of Albany. Appearing for the Government was Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Giovannetti. Two weeks later, on June 5, 2018, Farnum was found guilty.
