2024-25 Dress Code Changes

We have a Uniform, Dress, and Grooming Code to foster a respectful, professional learning environment. The code places particular emphasis on neatness, modesty, cost-effectiveness, and humility, not drawing attention to the individual.

There are several dress code changes for the 2024-25 school year. Please ensure your student has the proper clothing and grooming by the first day of school.

The changes to the dress code were proposed jointly by Student Government and the Faculty & Staff Council at the end of last school year. These changes were forwarded to the Board of Education as part of the annual policy change process. Some adjustments to the original proposal were made and approved by the Board this school year for implementation in August 2024.

The first change clarifies the pants portion of the dress code:

Pants

Solid navy blue or solid tan khaki dress style straight-leg pants. Land’s End has NDA-approved pants for purchase. Pants, regardless of where they are purchased, must be of comparable style. Please click here and select the drop down, 2024-25 Uniform, Dress & Grooming Code for pictures of unacceptable pant styles.

Cargo pants, denim pants, corduroy pants, cuffed pants, pants with an elastic band at the ankle, cotton sweatpants, fleece sweatpants, excessively tight pants, such as jeggings, leggings, skinny pants and spandex are not permitted.

The second change adjusts the skirts portion of the dress code:

Skirts

Solid navy blue or solid tan khaki skirt.  Skirts may not be excessively tight or short. Solid navy blue leggings (ankle length and straight-legged) without texture or pattern must be worn with a skirt at all times. Please click here and select the drop down, 2024-25 Uniform, Dress & Grooming Code for pictures of acceptable and unacceptable skirt styles. Land’s End has NDA-approved skirts for purchase.

Reminders

Shorts

Solid navy blue or solid tan khaki shorts may be worn from April through October. Shorts can be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee. Cargo and jogger/phy ed shorts are not allowed. Land’s End has NDA-approved shorts for purchase.

Grooming

All students’ hairstyles must be kept neat, clean, professional, and a natural hair color

It is important that you purchase the proper pants, leggings (for skirts), and shorts must be the appropriate length. Regarding hair color, our policy refers to students having one natural hair color.

For more information and explanation, please click here to refer to the May 16, 2024, morning video announcements.

New Service Hour Recording Platform

Attention parents, we will be rolling out a new service hour recording platform over the summer. Beginning June 1, students will no longer have access to x2Vol. Our new platform, MobileServe, is much more user-friendly!

Students will receive an email from MobileServe before the end of the school year. Be sure they click on it and claim the new account. All of their hours from x2Vol will be added to their account in June. There is no need for you to take any action for this to occur.

Mrs. Waters will meet with students in the fall to answer any questions. Details will also be sent out to families in late May and posted on the school website over the summer.

Please click here for more information on service hours at NDA.

Summer Reading

Summer is a wonderful time for students to explore their interests in reading beyond what is available on their phones and computers. Reading is an integral part of success in high school. However, students often develop negative attitudes towards reading when it is deemed "required" or when specific titles are "prescribed" from a list.

NDA English teachers suggest letting students choose what they want to read this summer. We expect all NDA students to read daily; 20 minutes is a simple recommendation. We encourage families of NDA students to discuss the specific summer reading expectations within their own homes. Upon returning to school in the fall, students will be asked to write about and discuss any book they read over the summer.

If you have any questions or would like reading suggestions, please contact our NDA librarian Katie Gelb or English Department Chair, Jean Thillman.

Thank You - Our Lady of the Bay Prayer Garden

A special thank you goes out to Susan and Rob DeRuyter and their family for sponsoring the spring/summer flowers in the Prayer Garden. Susan filled the planter with beautiful plants this week for everyone to enjoy. This donation is made in honor of the Class of 2024. Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 25.
