Notre Dame’s Horizons Summer Program has reached its sixth year of operation! Horizons is a transformational, community-centered program proven to close the opportunity gap and provide a safe and encouraging space for kids to explore their potential. Students acquire a joy of learning, the skills for success, and the inspiration to imagine and achieve their dreams.
134 students took part in this year’s program at ND. They showed incredible growth throughout their six weeks of learning, developing both academically and as individuals. The program also included swimming instruction, breakfast and lunch, field trips, recreation, arts, and an overall emphasis on family involvement. This year’s field trips included visits to SHU's Discovery Science Center & Planetarium, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, Silverman's Farm, and the Connecticut Science Center, among others.
Every year, many Notre Dame students spend the summer volunteering in the Horizons program, supporting the teachers and students, which not only provides a great learning opportunity for the high school students, but also gives Horizons students mentors and role models.
The Horizons Summer Program will be returning next summer. We look forward to seeing all of the students continue to grow!
