August is National Immunization Awareness Month in the United States, held to highlight the importance of routine vaccinations for everyone. Guidance on useful vaccines continues to evolve, especially as viruses change or as new scientific developments create opportunities for new ways to help humans fight viruses, infections, or diseases. In this article, Kaeleigh Schroeder, Research Specialist at the Center for Social Research at North Dakota State University, discusses what an immunization is and highlights routine vaccinations for all ages.

Changes in the population's age structure have significant implications for society - workforce, caregiving, etc. For nearly a decade, the ratio for working-age individuals to one older adult in North Dakota has declined year to year. Current data indicates that there are only 3.5 working-age individuals for every older adult in the state.
