Making Changes to Your Dependent Day Care FSA
If your dependent day care needs change, you may be eligible to adjust your Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account (DDCFSA) contributions.
Some situations that may qualify:
- Child care/adult day care stops
-
Child care/adult day care starts (summer camp, a parent returning to work post-parental leave)
-
Child care/adult day care costs change (child starts kindergarten and before and/or after-school care is less than full-time day care)
- Your spouse stops working
This life event is intended to allow changes to the DDCFSA as life happens, to avoid over or under-contributing into the plan. You have 30 days from the date of an event to make changes to your account. The annual maximum still remains $5,000 per household. You must be enrolled in a DDCFSA currently to make changes or will otherwise need to wait until open enrollment to opt to contribute to a DDCFSA.
To make changes non-university employees can log into the Benefits Enrollment Platform* or contact Benefitfocus at 1-855-859-0966. University employees should contact their University Benefits Rep to request the change through NCFlex.
Documentation is required for life events. For a day care change, provide written proof from the dependent's day care provider stating the change in cost or enrollment status or complete the NCFlex DDCFSA Qualifying Life Event Form.
