NCFlex Coverage Continuation
Employment Transfers
The State of North Carolina sponsors NCFlex benefits. If an employees transfers within state government with a break of less than 31 days to another agency, university, participating community college or participating charter school, their NCFlex benefits transfer with them*. The benefits an employee was eligible for at both employing units must remain the same during a transfer. Employees may gain or lose eligibility for some NCFlex benefits if transferring between a university and a non-university employing unit.
*In some cases, benefits do not automatically transfer from one employing unit to the next. If you learn of an employee transferring to your employer from an NCFlex Participating Group with less than a 31-day break, please be sure to review the NCFlex Transfer Process Document to see if action is needed.
Separation of Employment or Retirement
If an employee leaves employment, most NCFlex plans have options to continue coverage either at the same rate they pay as an employee or a small percentage more.
Do you have employees thinking about retirement? Make sure they know their options when they leave. Our Continuation of Coverage guide lists each plan and continuation options that are available.
