SEPTEMBER 18-22, 2013  | Washington, DC
4th Annual OUT on the Hill
Black LGBT Leadership Summit
The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) is a civil rights organization dedicated to empowering Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people as it works to achieve the mission of eradicating racism and homophobia. As America's leading Black LGBT civil rights organization focused on federal public policy, NBJC is hosting the Fourth Annual  OUT on the Hill Black LGBT Leadership Summit in Washington, DC, September 18-22, 2013.

This unique and important convening brings together hundreds of the nation's top Black LGBT activists, thought leaders, elected officials, faith leaders and youth to participate in social action on the national stage to demonstrate that all politics are local. We will educate our Congressional leaders, the Obama Administration and federal agencies on public policy concerns of Black LGBT people and our families.

A major highlight of OUT on the Hill will be informational briefings during which participants will have an opportunity to discuss important policy issues with key White House officials. In addition to OUT on the Hill activities, delegates will also have the opportunity to participate in the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference (CBCF-ALC) - and add their voice and perspective to the issue forums addressing the critical challenges facing Black communities. Check out some of the highlights from OUT on the Hill 2012 to get an idea of what's in store. One of the most talked about events of the summit included an unprecedented National Town Hall Meeting: Honoring and Protecting the Lives of Black Trans Women. Enjoy the video footage for a peek into the profound dialog that took place.

Town Hall Meeting: Honoring and Protecting the Lives of Black Trans Women

This year, NBJC has organized a robust agenda of several groundbreaking events, including: the unveiling of our first national strategic plan purposed with mapping the political and social state of the Black LGBT community, in which a panel of policy experts and distinguished researchers will assist as we collectively develop the political agenda for our movement; and a national town hall meeting to address the systemic policing of masculine identified women and trans men of color. NBJC will also reconvene its Black LGBT Leaders Day at the White House, which will include presentations from the Obama Administration. In addition, an Issue Advocacy Day is planned to serve as an opportunity for Black LGBT leaders to engage with their Members of Congress in an honest and educational dialogue about our community.
'WOMAN POWER' is abundant at OUT on the Hill!

Attendees will leave ignited to a whole new level of action, and with the language, tools and resources needed to be politically charged to share great information and new ideas back at home.

This is a crucial time for our community and our nation as a whole. As we monitor the political gains of the LGBT movement, it is time to claim our seat at the table and ensure that the needs of the Black LGBT community are not forgotten. It is time to own our power and let our voices be heard.
