STATE WORKFORCE AGENCIES LAUD
INCLUSION OF JOB-SEEKER PROGRAM IN BUDGET DEAL
The National Association of State Workforce Agencies praised today the inclusion of funding for an employment program in the budget deal passed by Congress this morning.
The bill includes funding for the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment program, which helps states provide job-seeking services to people receiving unemployment insurance benefits.
NASWA lauded the move in an announcement today.
Scott B. Sanders, NASWA's Executive Director, said states have been a "laboratory of innovation" and noted the bipartisan support for the program.
The program, which had previously been a pilot, will now be ensconced in law.
The budget deal authorizes $4 billion for the efforts over the next decade, a sharp increase over the roughly $115 million it received in fiscal year 2017, according to NASWA.

2018 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
NASWA's legislative priorities advance states' efforts to ensure our nation's workforce system meets employers' needs for a qualified workforce and promote high-quality employment and careers for workers. The agenda is comprised of five main categories with 10 specific points for congressional action.
"NASWA's 2018 Legislative Priorities document represents a simple roadmap for Congress to achieve an even higher level of economic prosperity in the New Year through practical and affordable investment in workforce development," said Scott B. Sanders, Executive Director of NASWA. "With the labor market tightening across the nation and skilled workers harder to find than ever before, it is crucial for Congress to invest in the public workforce system so employers have the human capital they need for continued success."
