Clearlake Capital Acquires WhiteStar Asset Management

WhiteStar Asset Management, Clearlake Capital Group, L.P., and Pine Brook Capital Partners announced that Clearlake has acquired a majority stake in WhiteStar from Pine Brook in partnership with WhiteStar’s management team, led by Chief Executive Officer Gibran Mahmud. The Clearlake and WhiteStar combined assets under management are now approximately $24 billion. WhiteStar is a leading investor in the syndicated bank loan space, with a focus on collateralized loan obligations (CLOs). The terms of the transaction are not disclosed.


Topspin Consumer Partners and Portfolio Company, Bear Down Brands, Complete Two Investments

Bear Down Brands, a Topspin Consumer Partners portfolio company, announced it has acquired Verilux. For more than 50 years, the Vermont-based Verilux has created innovative lighting products that simulate natural light indoors for reading and seasonal light therapy. In recent years, they have expanded into UV-C light technology to help consumers safely sanitize high-touch surfaces without chemicals. Verilux will be the fifth brand under the Bear Down Brands umbrella, joining Pure Enrichment, Bentgo, Brusheez, and EasyLunchboxes.

Separately, Topspin Consumer Partners announced that it has led an investment in reCommerce, a rapidly growing, technology-enabled selling partner of brands through Amazon. reCommerce offers leading consumer brands an end-to-end solution on Amazon, allowing them to capitalize on growing demand and navigate the complexities of the world’s largest online marketplace. reCommerce combines its proprietary in-house technology platform with world-class creative, marketing, data analytics, brand protection, and logistics services to drive the growth of leading brands on Amazon.

Andrew Junkin Named Rhode Island Chief Investment Officer

Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner announced that Andrew Junkin, CFA has been hired as the State's Chief Investment Officer. Mr. Junkin served as president of Wilshire Consulting since 2015, leading a team of over 80 investment professionals. Over his 15-year tenure at Wilshire, he worked with public and corporate pension funds, foundations, endowments, and insurance companies. Before joining Wilshire, Junkin served as a senior consultant and director of research at Asset Services Company.


DLA Piper Announces New US Executive Committee and Global Board Members

DLA Piper announced that partners Angela Agrusa, David Mendelsohn, Kathleen Ruhland and Eric Wang have been named to the firm’s US Executive Committee, and that partner Ann Ford has been appointed to the firm’s Global Board. Agrusa, who also serves as managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles offices, represents international brands, major companies and prominent individuals in high-stakes, complex commercial cases and class actions.

Mendelsohn focuses his practice in the area of insurance and reinsurance transactional, compliance and regulatory matters. Ruhland, who is also managing partner of DLA Piper’s Minneapolis office and chair of the Consumer Goods sub-sector, advises clients on cross-border transactions. Wang serves as co-chair of the firm’s Northern California Corporate and Finance practice and is a member of the Policy Committee. Ford is also US chair and global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice, as well as the firm’s US chair and global co-chair of Sectors.
