NAF Advisory Board April News

April is National Internship Awareness Month and here at NAF, that’s something to celebrate! In many communities throughout our NAF network, springtime is when internship opportunities are solidified by local companies and NAF students are excitedly interviewing for internships.

If you’ve hosted a NAF intern before or are planning to do so this summer, thank you for supporting our students and providing them with amazing opportunities in your organization.

If you’ve never hosted a NAF intern before, what are you waiting for? Get in touch with your local NAF academy lead and let them know you want to know more about this process. NAF’s got everything you need to start planning….so visit some of the linked resources below to get started!

Getting Internship Ready

Whether you’re new to hosting interns or you’ve been a supervisor for decades, there’s always something new to learn.

Check out NAF’s Internship Supervisor Hub to help you plan and provide impactful internship experiences for you, your company, and your intern.

  • Get inspired! NAF interns and supervisors talk about their experiences and share advice for great internships in this video
  • Plan the internship project. NAF’s project plan template can help you build out a project of value that your intern can work on during their internship.
  • Get ready to onboard your intern. Our Onboarding Checklist can help you think through the logistics of your internship.

National Public Health Week... ...may have been last week but it’s always a good time to promote careers in medicine for our students. NAF recently teamed up with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) to develop a new learning resource, Navigating a Career in Medicine, to inspire students to consider a career in the future of public health. You can use this project as the foundation to build a strong work-based learning experience, such as partner engagement or a mentored industry project.

Network Highlights

Teradyne recently hosted a powerful worksite tour, led by NAF Advisory Board member Nitza Basoco, where Centennial High School AOE students from Compton USD were able to build a wireless speaker from scratch and participate in an engineering challenge to build the tallest tower using household items. See more
