December 2022
Seasons Greetings from NADEC
From the NADEC Chair
Dear DEC Members, Partners, and Friends,

Sometimes trade barriers in exporting can feel like working with the Grinch. The NADEC would like to thank all our local DEC members, partners and friends in helping to lessen the “Grinchy” effect on exporting in 2022.

Here is to the Grinch of trade barriers leaving in 2023!

The NADEC would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and a Prosperous New Year.

Exporter of the Year Award

Congratulations!
Aventure Aviation Receives EXIM Bank 2022 Exporter of the Year Award
December 13, 2022 Awards, Export, News

Aventure Aviation was recognized as an Exporter of the Year at the annual conference of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), held December 13 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.

The Exporter of the Year award recognizes some of the nation’s leading exporters, as they help to strengthen the domestic workforce and fortify supply chains.

“We are honored by the recognition,” said Zaheer Faruqi, Aventure Aviation’s CEO and Co-founder. “This is truly a team effort, and we look forward to continued growth and success.” Zaheer sits on the NADEC Board.

The EXIM Annual Conference is EXIM’s flagship event for the year. The one-day, in-person and virtual event features high-level dialogue with innovative leaders in business, finance, government, policy, and media.
The 2022 theme was “A Brighter Future Through Exporting,” and featured discussions around key EXIM priorities. It was the first EXIM annual conference held in-person since 2019, and had over 1,000 virtual and in-person attendees.

During the conference, Aventure shared valuable insights during the panel session “Expanding Globally: How Small Businesses are Reaching New Markets.” Examples were presented by Aventure how EXIM can help small business exporters accelerate growth in international markets, fund overseas expansion, engage in emerging economies, and mitigate risk.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is the nation’s official export credit agency with the mission of supporting American jobs by facilitating U.S. exports.
In Memoriam

Matthew Andersen, Director of the Department of Commerce San Diego Office and Executive Secretary of the San Diego & Imperial District Export Council, passed away unexpectedly on December 15. Matt touched many lives and careers during his time with the Commercial Service and was a role model for so many of us. Our love and support go out to our colleagues across the Pacific South that had the good fortune to work closely with Matt on a regular basis. He will be dearly missed.

Matt was a devoted public servant of 37 years and had just recently announced his retirement as the San Diego Office Director where he served for 25 years. Matt was a valuable member of the Pacific South team. In 2015, Matt received the Department of Commerce’s Bronze Award for Superior Federal Service.

Matt was also recognized as the 2003 “International Business Leader of the Year” by the World Trade Center San Diego and the U.S. Commercial Service’s 2004 National Manager of the Year. Because of his tireless dedication, the San Diego & Imperial DEC received the DEC of the Year Award in 2014.

Matt will be fondly remembered for his humor, his relentless advocacy of his Commerce team, his love of his hometown of Chicago, and his passion for baseball. Matt is survived by his fiancé and lifelong partner, Brooke Palmer. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brooke, his family, and friends during this difficult time.

What are the best URLS for your international website?

We can all agree that having a strong online presence is key if you wish to be successful in today’s competitive international marketplace. But what factors should you consider when deciding which URL structure to use, to facilitate a strong online presence for your business?

Multiple languages, multiple countries, and sometimes multiple languages within the same country can make international Search Engine Optimization (SEO) a daunting process.
When thinking of International SEO, it’s important to keep in mind that you are not only trying to be found by search engines and their crawlers bots, but the URL structure you choose should take into count your local target market prospects – your local buyer persona – as well.

Having a localized website, both from a URL and content point of view, will play an important part in building trust with local users, allowing them to find you and interact easily with your brand.

In the blog below we’ll review different options regarding URL structure, discuss their advantages (and disadvantages), and important considerations when taking your website internationally.
