Greetings!

Over the past four years I've screened and discussed my film Including Samuel more than 400 times both nationally and internationally. Throughout this journey, I have repeatedly been asked the same question: "But what about kids with emotional and behavioral disabilities? Can they be successfully included in school and community?"

The new Who Cares About Kelsey? Project addresses that question through film, social media, educational materials and national outreach and events.

Please visit our just-launched Who Cares About Kelsey? website to:

  • Watch our two new Who Cares About Kelsey? film trailers
  • Learn about the issues addressed by the project, such as the inclusion of students with emotional/behavioral disabilities, school climate and culture, bullying, racial disparities and the school-to-prison pipeline
  • Screen some of the nine mini-films that are part of the project
  • Find out about upcoming screenings throughout the country
  • Read our blog and recent press coverage

WGBH Radio host Callie Crossley said to Kelsey, "Thank you for sharing your story with all those kids that you'll be touching across the country." Please check out the trailer on our website and we hope to share the film with you soon!

The Documentary
Kelsey venting with Kathy
Kelsey talks with her mentor at Somersworth (NH) High School, Kathy Francoeur, in a scene from Who Cares About Kelsey?

Kelsey Carroll's goal is to graduate from high school. But there are plenty of reasons why she shouldn't. She attends a school with one of the highest dropout rates in New Hampshire and has dealt with homelessness, self-mutilation, abuse, and ADHD. Who Cares About Kelsey? is the story of Kelsey's transformation from a defiant and disruptive "problem student" to a motivated and self-confident young woman. Along the way, critical figures in her personal and educational life shape her coming of age and play important roles in an education revolution that's about empowering - not overpowering - youth with emotional and behavioral challenges.
