Read Your Heart Out

Marquette will be holding its annual Read Your Heart Out event on Thursday, February 15th. Throughout the month of February, schools across the Madison Metropolitan School District celebrate Read Your Heart Out, a day in celebration of National African American Parent Involvement Day. National African American Parent Involvement Day was founded by Joseph Dulin in 1995 and was inspired by the Million Man March. This year is the district's 20th year celebrating Read Your Heart Out, check out the district’s Read Your Heart Out Website for more information. 



Battle of the Books 

The date for the Marquette Battle of the Books competition has been set! Families of students who are part of Battle of the Books are invited to join and watch the competition. It will take place at Marquette Elementary School. 

Thursday, February 29th

4th Grade Competition: 9:00am - 10:00am

5th Grade Competition: 8:00am - 9:00am

Winners of the Marquette Battle of the Books competition will go on to compete in the regional competition on Wednesday, March 13th. Families of those teams are invited to watch that event. Shannon Erickson, will reach out to families of the winners with the details on that event. The regional competition will take place at Hawthorne Elementary School in the morning. Here is a link to the Battle of the books family website that contains book lists for each grade level. 

REACH

During the month of February, all grade levels will be completing digital citizenship lessons. We use the lessons provided on the common sense media website. Many of the lessons contain home connections that you could use to further discuss digital citizenship with your student at home. The Common Sense Education website is a great resource for families, not only does it provide great lesson plans but it also includes a section for parents. You can look up any type of media, book, game, movie etc and it will give you ratings and recommendations on it to help you determine if it’s something you want your child to use.

Advanced Learning - Kari Augustine

Families, staff, and friends, the next Advanced Learning Advisory Council (ALAC)Meeting is this Thursday, February 1, 2024. The regular meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m., and 7-8 p.m. is specific to Advanced Learning Advisory Committee-Task Force work.

We will be meeting at The Holtzman Center Location 333 Holtzman Rd., Madison, WI 53713 and also via Zoom. The attached flyer has additional details.

MMSD will discontinue using the online Web Attendance after the 2023-2024 school year, instead parents and families can enter absences online through the Parent Portal. Starting January 29, 2024 you can use your Parent Portal to submit absences.  

Entering an absence request is quick and easy, and can be done using your desktop computer or the Parent Portal app on your mobile device. Follow these simple steps:

1. Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.
2. Select More from the Navigation area.
3. Select Absence Requests.
4. Fill in the required information, including the date and reason for the absence.
5. Submit your request.

Winter Recess

All students go outside for a 30 minute lunch recess.

If the windchill is less than -10, students will have indoor recess.

All 3rd graders must wear snow pants or stay on the black top when snow is present.

Marquette has a very limited supply of extra snowpants. We can not guarantee that a pair of snow pants will be available for your child. Your child will still be required to go outside with their class.

Please make sure your child has

a coat, snow pants, boots,

mittens/gloves and a hat

everyday.
