Dear Friends,
After forty-six years with you, it is time for me to plan my retirement from UUWestport. This decision is the result of much thought and contemplation and although it comes with a dose of sadness, it also brings great anticipation. There are many projects awaiting that require my time, energy and creativity and I look forward to being able to focus on them.
It was a snowy day in February 1978 when I first signed a contract to become your Director of Music. I remember thinking that this would be a good job for three or four years. I never imagined that it would be forty-six years later that I would be making a decision to move on. In 1997 I was honored to be ordained by this congregation and became Minister of Music. When my position became full-time it allowed me to expand and diversify our program, enriching our worship. I am grateful for the richness of experiences and the lessons I have learned.
Rev Alan and I will work closely to ensure a smooth transition. Our current thinking is that I will remain through the holiday season next fall. You will be in good hands. You are a community of energy, passion, and creativity and I don’t doubt that your next Director of Music will mirror those qualities.
I will miss being a part of this congregation. I am grateful for the hard work of our musicians, for your friendship and for the many ways you have supported me. It has been an honor to serve you.
In gratitude,
Rev Ed
