Notes for Sunday's Music

Colin Mawby is past organist of Westminster Cathedral (Roman Catholic) in London and in 2006 was awarded knighthood in the Order of St Gregory for his contributions to Roman Catholic church music. His setting of Jesus Christ the Apple Tree juxtaposes plainchant with freely composed material to create an atmosphere of sublime devotion. Charles Franois Dieupart (ca. 1667-1740) was French by birth but spent much of his career in London. His Sonata IV for recorder and organ is a collection eight short pieces, each alternating between slow and fast tempos. We welcome back baritone Reginald Smith JR as he returns from his student teaching assignment in Cologne, Germany. This summer Reggie will be a member of the Gerdine Young Artist Program at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis.

The casework and all related organ material for the north quire wall (which includes the Choir division, Pedal division, and half of the Great division) will be installed this coming week beginning 6 May. The remainder of the organ will be installed beginning 20 May, after which tonal finishing commences.  Next week's installation will also be live streamed on www.goodshepherdlex.org.
