Having celebrated the gift of the Holy Spirit last week, this week we celebrate the Holy Trinity as our faith explains that God is in three forms: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Anthem If ye love me by Tallis echoes the Gospel Lesson as the Holy Spirit (the Comforter) will guide into all truth. Like his contemporary William Byrd, Tallis remained a Roman Catholic during the English Reformation to Protestantism. Richard Dering's Duo Seraphim, scored for two treble voices, creates an atmosphere of mystery as the two seraphim proclaim "Sanctus" three times for the Holy Trinity. Dering, though born a Protestant in England, lived most of his life in continental Europe where he converted to Roman Catholicism. A "bridge composer" of sorts, his melodies feature Renaissance imitation while scored over a functional bass line (played by the organ) that points decidedly toward the Baroque. |

Organ installation continues
This week the two front Great cases are being installed and faade pipes put into place. The console has also arrived (aka "mission control"). This will mark the completion of the "visual" part of the organ with all cases being assembled and in place. Next week the last of the interior pipework will be delivered and installed, all connections hooked up, and sound will begin to emerge from the instrument. The organ will then be tuned, pipe by pipe, rank by rank, division by division, and tonal finishing will happen along the way. With 3,406 pipes to work over, this is a great undertaking!

 | | The Training Choir | Training Choir on tour
On Sunday 19 May the Training Choir went on tour to sing the 10:30am Eucharist at St Hubert's Church. It was a splendid morning for them as they added their angelic voices to the morning liturgy in this historic parish in the diocese. Thank you to Training Choir directors Kakie Hester, Tanner Jones, and Katherine Wright for their wonderful leadership. Most of all, thank you to the children of the Training Choir and their parents for making this effort possible!
The Training Choir meets for one more week (Sunday 26 May at 4:00pm), then will sing the 10:00 service Sunday 2 June. At this service they will be recognized for their achivements over the past year. Congrats to the Training Choir for a great year!

L'dor v'dor
This is an ancient Hebrew expression that means "from generation to generation." Knowledge, tradition, and history are passed down from one generation to the next, and this is especially true regarding the art of music. Several groups from Good Shepherd Day School came over to the church this week to witness the organ construction and to get a tour by Mr. Linker. The children had all sorts of fascinating questions. It is a divine privilege to witness their minds at work. Curiosity is the first step to learning. In our Baptismal covenant we pledge to seek and serve Christ in all persons. Those who are teachers have a beautiful and awesome responsibility. L'dor v'dor! |
