Organist Mitchell Miller to Perform this Sunday in Good Shepherd
Mitchell Miller

This Sunday we welcome Mitchell Miller to play the 4:15pm recital. Mitchell is currently a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance at the Oberlin Conservatory. His teachers are James David Christie for organ and Jonathan Moyer for piano. Originally from Cincinnati, Mitchell studied organ with David Mulbury and Kim Heindel before coming to Oberlin. In addition to repertoire, he greatly enjoys liturgical music, and is currently the organist at First Presbyterian Church in Huron, Ohio. Mitchell was the winner of the Cleveland Chapter of the American Guild of Organists 2013 Quimby Competition for Young Organists and a finalist in the 2014 Arthur Poister Competition in Organ Performance.

Notes for Sunday's Music

The Anthem is a setting by Clifford Boyd (1930-2002) of an anonymously composed text. The four stanzas are set in a tunefully accessible strophic manner with each of the four voices having a melody of their own right. Australian composer Clifford Boyd was active in Adelaide, serving several parishes there throughout his lifetime. The Anthem Blessed are you, Lord was composed in 1965 for the Quire St Nicholas, a chamber ensemble Boyd founded that specialized in English choral music.

The Choir's Louisville Tour A Great Success!
Good Shepherd & St Luke's singers in Louisville last Saturday
Last Saturday our Choir had the great pleasure of traveling to Louisville to join with the choir of St Luke's Anchorage in a festal evensong celebrating their patronal festival.  Fr Michael Delk, who was once a curate at Good Shepherd in the late 90s is now the rector of St Luke's, so those in our group who knew him from the past had a great time reconnecting.  The combined choirs enjoyed singing works by Smith, Stanford, and Wesley in a service that was preceded by an organ recital on St Luke's newly built mechanical action organ by Martin Pasi of Washington.  As the saying goes, good time was had by all!  Many thanks to our friends at St Luke's for their gracious hosting!
