Hello Friends, and welcome to my news!
"Bukvich is one of the notable musicians who have embraced the energetic complexity of prog-rock via contemporary composition (and to dispel any reactionary social beliefs, prog-rock is cool, just ask Steve Reich). Her trademarks are sonority, color, texture, and a feeling for the metaphysical, and her collaboration with (Carolyn) Dorfman has earned raves."

This spring I enjoyed new and inspiring collaborations, wrote a great deal of music as a result, and have reviews, videos, and interviews to share. As we head toward summer and roll the windows down some more, I hope that your various destinations will include stops to see these beautiful artists and the timely productions they have created! Happy travels!

I am thrilled to announce the New York premiere of my collaboration with Janis Brenner and Dancers , costume designer Sue Julien, lighting designer Mitchell Bogard, and installation artist Eva Petrič. The interdisciplinary work Once You are Not a Stranger looks at the idea of empathy and "otherness" in a multicultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-religious world. On Jan 26, 2017, the fantastic ETHEL string quartet premiered Once You are Not a Stranger, the title track from the score, for string quartet, bass guitar and electronic sound at (le) Poisson Rouge in NYC as part of Composers Concordance's 'RoundTable' concert. You can watch the video of the performance here, featuring Kip Jones and Cory Lee on violins, Ralph Farris on viola, and Dorothy Lawson on cello .

Stairs at Jeanette Stoner and Dancers Season in Tribeca
"A collaboration of choreographers & dancers focused within the inner landscapes of the human psyche and soul", Jeanette Stoner & Dancers superbly performed Stairs set to my music April 29 - May 2, 2017 in Stoner Loft, 83 Leonard Street, NYC. I recommend visiting this place with its unique yearly offering created by one of the doyens of the downtown NYC art scene. More news about my upcoming collaboration with this company soon!

 More Words on the Web

"Bukvich... hopes that humans will one day master the frequencies which they hear now, and evolve physiologically enough to hear ranges currently unknown to them." New York University's Independent Student Newspaper asked me about hybrid music and human evolution through sound. I was ecstatic about their interest in the topic. We talked about the future, "the flow", and the perils of compartmentalized thinking. Thank you, Sierra Jackson, and Washington Square News! You can read the interview here.

New York, Odessa, and Helsinki Premieres
On March 12, 2017 Composers Concordance and the American Festival of Microtonal Music, two long-standing organizations, joined together to co-produce a concert focusing on NYC composers writing microtonal compositions. Part of Composers Concordance's 6th annual festival 'New York // New Music', the concert included the American premiere of my piece Hard Rain, Johnny for bassoon and electronic sound, along with works by Dan Cooper, Gene Pritsker, Monroe Golden, Johnny Reinhard, Zach Seely, David Taylor, and Joseph Pehrson. The virtuoso bassoonist Johnny Reinhard commissioned the piece and performed it with great panache.

Hard Rain, Johnny premiered in Ukraine at the Odessa Festival of Modern Art - Two Days and Two Nights of New Music on April 22, 2017 held at the Concert Hall of the Odessa Philharmonic Society, also played by Reinhard. The Moscow-based composer Антон Ровнер writes about the premiere "a lively piece... seems to have impressed the audience the most." Reinhard will showcase the work in Helsinki on Aug 22, 2017.
As always, thank you for reading, and I look forward to connecting with you soon!!

Yours,
