August 2024

Dear Hyla,

The last exhibit we had with Claire and Melissa was truly magical. Those of you who were able to visit with the two artists on the day the exhibit was over had a real treat. For those who didn't come - below are two videos of them discussing their art in other venues. We thought you'd like a second look.

The museum has been very busy with visitors. We enjoy meeting people from all around. In the summer we see people from many different states and even countries. Hearing their stories is one of the joys of being in the museum.

One sort of urgent matter - we had to change the dates of a couple of kids workshops and we have one tomorrow - August 1. If you want to sign up for the workshop - hurry! It's going to be good.

Hope to see you soon. Bring a friend!

Enjoy!

Hyla

Executive Director

Current Exhibit

These are not ordinary portraits. Heidi Brueckner lives in Oakland, California and creates a lot of her work using Amazon Prime bubble wrap mailers for her canvas. She sews them together and adds many different elements to make her magic. For example - when you visit, see if you can find googly eyes in one of the paintings. The exhibit is getting rave reviews already.

Happenings in July at the Museum (last month)

The museum participated in a first every nonprofit showcase held at the LDS Church on the Williams Highway. There were 43 other nonprofit organizations represented and it was a very enlightening event.

We are glad we participated.

This is what our area looked like. We were able to share information about the museum and its programs. There were food trucks and activities for kids included in the event. AND, we signed up some new volunteers.

Rupert Wates Concert

Rupert lives in New York and Colorado. He performs over 150 concerts a year and travels more than 50,000 miles a year. He has been one of our regular musicians and he never disappoints. This year he told us more about his four year old son and plans for a new group of songs about Gabriel. He will be back next year on September 5!

Our classes for young people have begun. This one is a diorama class.

The students had a choice of making a fairy or underwater scene.

Everyone in the class went away with two art creations...A bee hotel and a wind chime - all made from cans!

Check below, there are lots more workshops for adults and kiddos.

Life Drawing

Most Mondays, people gather at the museum to sketch a live model. Doug Iverson is the leader of this activity. If you are interested in learning more - please email office@gpmuseum.com with Life Drawing in the subject line and we will put you on Doug's email list. He sends an email out every Sunday to let you know what is happening the next day.

August Concert and More

Many thanks to the Welch Investment Group for sponsoring our concerts. And special thanks to Weekend Beer for selling beer and wine for us.

HELP US TO PROVIDE YOU WITH

CULTURAL EXPERIENCES

(and help us grow your brain!)

Over the last 45 years, the Museum has showcased art that connects us across time, geography, and cultural differences. We couldn’t fulfill our important mission without the generous support of our members and donors. Today, will you go above and beyond and make a gift to empower our vital work of connecting our community with the power of art?

If you get this far....

CBS Sunday Morning highlighted some "temporary art" that happens to be in Oregon on the coast.

THANK YOU!
