Newsletter from the Muraco Elementary School Parents Association (MESPA)

A message from Principal Leslie West

What a fantastic first few days of school! Our small community was abuzz with the anticipation and excitement that comes with the start of a new school year. Our classroom teachers did an outstanding job of helping our student population learn our routines and expectations. I am excited to see what wonderful things this year will bring.

As our students are busy learning our routines and expectations, we do ask that our parents do the same. Our doors open at 8:05 and students may enter the building from their respective entry doors at that time. Students should not be at school prior to 8:05 as supervision is not available. I kindly remind our parents that dogs should not be on school property- particularly at arrival and dismissal.

Please make sure you have reviewed with your student their afternoon method of departure. In other words, please make sure they know whether they are walking, getting picked up in the car-line, attending Kidsborough or taking the bus home or to the recreation department, etc.!

Please see the message below regarding registration for string instruments.

Looking forward to the week ahead,

Leslie

COMMUNITY NEWS

AUTHORFEST 2022

Authorfest is back in person, with authors and illustrators visiting our school on October 6. This much loved town tradition has been going on for nearly 30 years. Each grade level will welcome a presenter who will talk about everything from ideas for books to revision, editing and much more. Winchester’s librarians will begin preparing students for the visits shortly after school starts. More news on our school’s presenters to come! And, if you love books and are looking for a chance to volunteer, this event is for you. WFEE needs volunteers who can make sure the school is ready for the authors & illustrators plus greeting them on 10/6 to get everyone to the right classroom. Contact Caren at info@wfee.org if you want to help.

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED

Winchester A Better Chance (Winchester ABC) is looking for host families for two incoming ninth graders! During the school year, the ABC scholar would spend Sundays from 12-8pm with your family and would stay at your house one weekend a month.

Who are the scholars? Ayden is a highly motivated student and excited to join the Winchester community. Ayden plays viola and has been teaching himself how to cook. He loves preparing meals for his family. Joel is a great friend and student. He loves computers, coding, and robotics. Joel has enjoyed being tech support for his church.

Contact us if you are ready to get to know either of our scholars better as their new host family!

Please join Cub Scout Pack 507 at our annual Ice Cream Social to learn more about the scouting program in Winchester, for boys and girls in grade 1-5. Pack leaders will be on hand to talk to and answer any questions that you may have about the scouting program and register on-site. This is a family event and parents and siblings are welcome to meet the scouting community and enjoy an ice cream treat! There will be a special breakout session for prospective parents of first grade Tiger Cubs at 7:00pm.
