SENIOR SUNDAY AWARDS & HONORS | |
|
At Mulberry Street, we are blessed to support some of our graduating seniors with scholarships, sending them off on their college journey with not only our spiritual blessing but also our financial blessing! This past Sunday, the Mulberry Scholarship Committee awarded five of our graduating seniors the Mulberry Merit Scholarship in recognition of their hard work in school, in the community, and in this church. This is a one-time $1,000 award for their first year of studies. The seniors who received this award were Wilson Brown, Callie Evans, Barrett Moody, Walter Moody, and Avery Morris.
The scholarship committee was also excited to continue the tradition we established last year in awarding the Nell P. Walker Scholarship. Mrs. Walker was a devoted servant of Mulberry, and in her memory, this scholarship awards $5,000 over four years to one or two high school seniors who are members of our youth group, with $1,250 given each fall that the recipient remains enrolled in school. The scholarship committee was pleased to award this scholarship to Ella Magda and Emerson Toles in recognition of their exemplary work as students, their commitment to Christ, and their service to Mulberry and especially our youth group.
Congratulations again to all of our graduates and our award recipients!

Last Sunday we recognized our twelve senior acolytes who will graduate this month and honored their years of service in worship at Mulberry with a special glass paperweight that includes a replica of the cross pendant they wear. We are proud of these students and know they have exciting things ahead! Our prayer is that their time as acolytes will anchor their faith and remind them that Christ’s light shines, even in the darkness, and that they are bearers of that light into the world, wherever their paths take them.

Ashley & Mary Hurt moved to her hometown of Macon in 1998, & joined our church. Ashley says that a primary attraction for him was our Macon Outreach homeless ministry.
Ashley immediately volunteered to serve meals at Outreach, take charge of its food pantry, & serve on its Board of Directors. He also joined the bass section of the Ainsworth Memorial Choir. Mary used her drama skills to help stage children’s Christmas tableaus & other productions. In addition, she was very active in the UMW, eventually serving as its president. When the church doors were open, Ashley & Mary were present.
On June 1, this lovely couple will be moving to a Chattanooga assisted living facility to be closer to their children & grandchildren. You are invited to a reception honoring Ashley & Mary this Sunday, May 19, in the parlor immediately following the worship service.

Mulberry Book Club - May Meeting
Sunday, May 19 | 10 am | Parlor
We’re switching things up and reading fiction this month in the Mulberry Book Group! Join us on Sunday, May 19 at 10:00 AM in the Parlor as we discuss the beloved classic The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. You may have read this book as a child or teen, either for fun or a school assignment, but as with most books, there is something new to uncover every time you read a story. All ages welcome!
If you haven’t read the book by our next meeting on May 19, it’s completely okay! Please come for the discussion and fellowship. (Note the move from the second Sunday due to the brunch scheduled on May 12.) Purchase the book on Amazon or from your favorite bookseller if you don't already have a copy.
