Hey Artisans!

Just picture yourself sunning on the slopes of Italy's beautiful Mount Etna, enjoying a crisp glass of white wine...We are pleased to present three picture-perfect wines to enjoy now as the weather warms, the 2022 Etna Biancos from Pietradolce, Tornatore, and Graci.

Pietradolce means sweet stone in Italian and is an ode to Etna. Founded in 2005, brothers Michele and Mario Faro come from a family for whom vines, roots, stock, grafts and scions have no secrets - they are, according to Gambero Rosso's 2013 Wines of Italy, "fra i massimi florovivaisti al mondo" i.e. "two of the world's top experts in nursery gardening." The pillar of Faro philosophy is the brothers' total respect for their territory - "our volcano", as they call Mount Etna - with its own native grapes: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante; and the most ancient and traditional of training systems, bush-trained vines.

This Etna Bianco is made from pure Carricante, Etna's ancient white grape, which has been growing there for a thousand years. This Etna white has the pronounced minerality and unabashed acidity and shows lovely fruit.

Meanwhile, the Tornatores, one the oldest wine growing families on Mt. Etna, have lived in Sicily since 1680 and trace their Etna grape growing back to 1865. That heritage and the Tornatore’s profound respect and understanding of the land is showcased in wines that capture the essence of Etna, deftly balancing concentrated flavors, complexity, freshness and refinement.

The Tornatore’s Etna roots have long grounded them in the flavors and patterns of their region, and it was this knowledge that inspired Francesco Tornatore to found his family’s winery in the town of Castiglione di Sicilia in 2010, nearly a century and a half after his great-grandfather first planted vineyards on Mt. Etna.

This Etna Bianco is also 100% Carricante. It offers pleasant hints of green apple, grapefruit, white peach and aromatic herbs on the nose and shows its true identity on the palate with a very pleasant flavor and freshness completed by an extraordinary minerality.

All are delicious, super food-friendly and in stock now, so get yours today!

Cheers!

2022 Pietradolce Sicialia Etna Bianco DOC

91 Points - Decanter:

"Scents of exotic blossoms, yellow plum and beautiful citrus zest. Mineral and racy, very crisp and firm, steely and citrus-driven. Bright acid with a firm, steely structure."

90 Points - Vinous:

"The 2022 Etna Bianco is delicate and floral with a nuanced blend of nectarine and wet stones. It’s soft and enveloping with a pretty inner sweetness up front and zesty acidity that enlivens its core of citrus-tinged apples. This finishes long, staining, yet still fresh, with sour lime and savory spice notes."

90 Points - Wine Spectator:

"A zippy white, with salty tang supporting flavors of crunchy pear, grated ginger, Meyer lemon peel, pastry cream and blanched almond. Drink now through 2027. 2,083 cases made, 640 cases imported."

92 Points - James Suckling:

"An aromatic nose with fresh flowers, herbs, almonds, pears and a touch of nougat. Medium body with bright acidity. Good minerality combined with a zestiness to the mid-palate giving it vibrancy and character. Plenty of lemon notes towards the salivating finish. Drink or hold." (June 2023)

90 Points - Decanter:

"Tornatore's unoaked Etna bianco, from vines in Castiglione di Sicilia on Etna's north slope, is full and round, with honeyed apple, pear and melon and some floral overtones. An easygoing white that will pair nicely with chicken salads or fish." (May 2023)

2022 Graci Sicilia Etna Bianco DOC

92 Points - Robert Parker's WA:

Made with 85% Carricante and 15% Catarratto, the Graci 2022 Etna Bianco has a distinct mineral note that adds extra sharpness and brightness. Over the years, the percentage of Carricante has increased in the blend. This grape's salty-mineral profile takes center stage. Showing a very light golden color, the wine drinks beautifully right now. 2023-2028. Alberto Aiello Graci is one of the protagonists of the Etna wine movement.

91 Points - James Suckling:

Lively citrus characters followed by subtle aromas of sea shells and wet stones. Medium-bodied. Flinty finish at the end. Clean and crisp. A blend of 85% carricante and 15% catarratto. Drink now.
