Marisa's Pearls of Wisdom
May is a big month of celebrations!! We honor and celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month! We celebrate 5 de Mayo, where we recognize the victory of the Mexican army over the French army at the battle of Puebla in 1862. We celebrate Mother’s Day, May 9th and last but not least we celebrate Memorial Day, May 31, to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the military.

This month we also want to reflect on this past year. 2020 was an epic year for all of us.  We experienced a major shift. A global pandemic that shot-down the world and killed over 3 million people globally and 561,610 American as of today. We experienced a major economic downturn for many, due to the shut down, lay-offs and business closings. A health crisis that strained most hospitals and first responders to the limit and social and racial unrest that shifted the mindset of many and brought the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion conversations to the forefront of most corporations, businesses, and kitchen tables. We must be courageous enough to seize the moment and be willing to have those difficult conversations about racism, macro & micro aggressions, biases, and inequity. We must work together to close the huge gaps of income, health benefits, and opportunities to create a world were everyone can bring their full self into the workplace and into society. To continue this discussion, please join me for MPowerment Works' upcoming workshop: Leadership & Diversity- Empowering the Future - May 18, 2021.
