Tip From Nic
With the vast majority of the 70-and-older population in New Canaan fully vaccinated, we want to encourage our members not to delay medical care any longer because of Covid fears. That procedure you’ve waited to schedule, the annual check by the dermatologist, the dental visit…NOW is the time. Our drivers are back and fully vaccinated, and will take you to both medical and non-medical appointments. Call the Office with any ride needs – giving us a couple of days’ notice is best – and we will get you where you need to go.

Daughters of Yalta
The Churchills, Roosevelts,_and Harrimans: A Story of Love and War
By Catherine Grace Katz

Recommended by Joan Gray, this is the untold story of the three intelligent and glamorous young women who accompanied their famous fathers to the Yalta Conference with Stalin, and of the fateful reverberations in the waning days of World War II. It is a remarkable story of fathers and daughters whose relationships were tested and strengthened by the history they witnessed and the future they crafted together.

Town of New Canaan
Health Services
Staying Put was delighted to welcome Marcy Rand, LCSW, Adult and Senior Services Coordinator for the Town of New Canaan, as Guest Speaker at our Spring Advisory Council Meeting. Here are some excerpts from her remarks.
I’m happy to be here today to share what we do in Human Services. Our mission is to help all New Canaan residents function optimally in their homes and in our community. We provide free and confidential services to families, children, adults and seniors. Here are some of the many ways we provide hands-on help to our seniors so they can safely age in place:

·      We provide access to traditional state-based programs.
·      We offer Medicare Choices counseling during open enrollment.
·      We provide health and wellness counseling.
·      We provide referrals for needed services.
·      We provide fitness assessments through the Telehealth program.
·      We help Veterans and their spouses secure benefits.
·      We coordinate home care needs, such as after a hospital visit.
·      We organize the New Canaan Food Pantry for residents twice each month.

We are grateful for our partnership with Staying Put, which was strengthened during the pandemic as we worked closely together to make sure that everyone was safe and connected. We collaborated in so many ways – volunteer shoppers, friendly phone calls, deliveries of goody bags and rides to vaccination clinics.

Please remember to remain safe during the next few months as everyone becomes vaccinated. Practice self-care. Get out. Exercise. Get your sleep. Enjoy your friends. You can hug!

Marcy’s office is in the Annex next to Town Hall. 203-594-3083.
