The Beyond Walking Group

Join us Friday mornings in May and June for the Beyond Yoga walking group where we will walk, stretch, incorporate mini bouts of exercise and move together while enjoying the benefits of being outside in spring in beautiful Kanata.

Why Walk? Walking is a great way to get active, requires little equipment and almost anyone can do it.

Walking every day, even in short bouts of 10 minutes, is a good way to meet the 150 minutes of weekly physical activity recommended by the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines.

Walking more means better health, improved mental health and better sleeping.

Featured Workshops

Our small group Hot Stone Restorative Yoga class is open to students of all levels and lineages of yoga with the intent of inducing deep relaxation and grounding.

This workshop will have the student moving in and out of three to four restorative poses, each held for long periods of time, using blankets, bolsters, and blocks. In every pose a minimum of three Hot Basalt stones will be gently placed on various parts of the body, including, hands, feet, stomach, spine and chest to further reduce tension from the body.

The benefits of hot stones are multiple and include stress reduction, increased blood flow, improved sleep and helps promote joint health. The weight and warmth of the stones combined with restorative postures and gentle hands-on massage will leave you feeling calm, grounded and peaceful, thus, encouraging overall health and wellness.

Space is limited to 4 participants so be sure to sign up early to reserve your spot.

Join Julia for this relaxing and restorative evening to nourish your whole self.

This session will include breathing, gentle movement, and a full 1 hour long Yoga Nidra.

Often called “yogic sleep,” Yoga Nidra is a deeply relaxing visualization practice that takes you into a state of consciousness that is somewhere between wakefulness and sleeping.

As part of the Nidra practice, you will be bringing your awareness to beautiful images, sensations, and different areas of the body. You will leave feeling calm, nourished, and rejuvenated.

We’ve all heard that without the breath, there is no yoga. Normally we don’t think about the breath very much, until we attend a yoga class and you’re asked to notice and focus on it.

Breathing, just like blinking your eyes, swallowing, heart beating, or digesting your food, just occurs naturally from the autonomic nervous system. But we can breathe intentionally, using certain patterns of breathing, that can change how you feel internally.

Creating a daily practice of breathwork can make you feel so much better. A breathing practice can bring more focus, calm, non-reactiveness, less depression and grief and can improve the quality of life.

We will be learning and practicing different breaths (pranayama) over the next three weeks and incorporating them with asana (postures). These will be gentle classes.
