Tell EPA and Gov. John Bel Edwards to Stop the Sasol Land Grab of Mossville!
Stand With Mossville!
Dear People,
Today is a special day for the people of Mossville. Desmond D'Sa, noted South African Environmental Justice activist is conducting a community forum, describing the abuses of Sasol the apartheid era South African synthetic fuel company that has implemented a coercive, deceptive and financially inadequate buyout of Mossville residents. The buyout is in order to build the world's biggest fracked gas to liquid facility. The buyout program is called a Voluntary Property Purchase Program. Read my investigation of these programs at Urban Ecology.
Many of you have followed my blog and the work of Mossville Environmental Action Now (MEAN) to save their community, founded free in 1790, from industrial toxins and mega-corporate encroachment. Mossville and MEAN need your help. Last week, the Southern EPA office Dallas Region 6 colluded with Sasol, convening an Environmental Justice Summit and inviting the company to present about their "model relocation" process. There was no participation by environmental justice advocates. Join me in emailing EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy (McCarthy.Gina@epa.gov) and by sending a message to Governor John Bel Edwards via Facebook. Tell them to
Stop the unjust land grab of Mossville!
Here is what I am going to write --
Dear Administrator McCarthy:
Last week your Region 6 office participated in the ongoing injustice being suffered by the people of Mossville Louisiana, and thereby became complicit in the land grab being perpetrated by Sasol, the apartheid era South African oil company. When Region 6 endorsed the suspect industry Voluntary Property Purchase process they helped cover up Sasol's
coercive, deceptive and financially inadequate program to take possession of this 225 year old community. I urge you to make Sasol return to negotiations with Mossville residents and Mossville Environmental Action Now. Impel Sasol to make Mossville residents whole, debt free, and fully housed.
