"Honeybee Wisdom"

Led by Rev. Joel Miller

Honeybees pollinate much of our food and honey is a great treat, but, for us Unitarian Universalists, as honeybees live as a hive, they also offer insights into how we make communities.

Reminder

As the cases of COVID, flu, RSV and just plain old colds are increasing, we'd like to remind you of the Fellowship's guidelines for illness:

To help reduce the risk of spread, we ask all to:

  • Wash hands frequently.
  • Self-monitor for fever, cough, or other symptoms indicative of infection and if feeling ill, stay home.
  • If aware of possible exposure, wear a mask or stay home.
  • If you have Covid, we expect you to follow CDC guidelines on isolation and mask wearing. These can be found here.
  • Remember that some members of the fellowship are more vulnerable than others, and some are more cautious than others.
  • Masks are always welcome.

These guidelines should be followed for all illnesses.

Endowment Grants

The Endowment Fund was established to support the mission of the Fellowship outside the scope of our annual operating budget. For the past three years, an allocation from the Endowment Fund has been voted on by the Congregation at the annual meeting to fund a project(s) to benefit the Fellowship.

The Endowment Fund Committee (EFC) is currently soliciting applications for projects to grant these funds to. The total funds available are $18,189 from the 2022 and 2023 allocations.

As part of this, the EFC will host a table in the Great Hall every Sunday following service through mid-February to hand out applications and their vetting document (this outlines the review process all applications will go through), as well as answer all questions.

All applications are due by midnight on February 18th. The documents can be found on the website via this link.

EFC will review all applications and then forward their recommended project(s) to the Board for review. The projects are then made available to members for review and comment before final approval. EFC anticipates announcing the project(s) being awarded funds at the June, 2024 Annual Congregational Meeting.

Also at the June 2024 Annual Meeting, a new Endowment Fund allocation will be presented. If approved, this amount will fund another annual cycle of grant applications for 2024-25.

Thank you for supporting the Endowment Fund through your donations. Your generosity is truly amazing.

EFC: Janet Horst (Chair), Barb Pecca, Carolyn Schwartz, John Solu

Fellowship Children - Ask a UU Robot - We Need Your Input!

We are preparing an upcoming service on the topic of AI (Artificial Intelligence) for February 18. 2024. For the Time for All Ages piece of the service we'd like to include questions that Fellowship children would like to ask a UU Robot and we need your help gathering these!

Please ask your child what they would ask a UU Robot and send it to us. We will run the questions through a AI tool and share the answers.

Some examples of questions are:

  • "Write a short poem about how we are all connected”
  • "Why do bad things happen to good people?"
  • “Write a short story for kids about our seventh principle”
  • “Draw a picture about caring for our planet Earth, the home we share with all living things”

but any and all questions are welcome.

We’ll use as many of the AI responses as possible and will make every effort to make sure each individual gets back the AI tool response to their question.

If your child would like to ask a question to a UU robot, please send it to Gabor Kiss at gkiss@muuf.org  or Jerry Weinstein at jweinstein@muuf.org.

GAAMC

Jan 29, 6 pm: Welcome to “ Do You Hear What I Hear”-- a curated evening of music featuring a GAAMC member's favorites. This eve we feature GAAMC Member Sherri Rase and the music she enjoys. We’ll discuss questions such as, “what lights you up about a particular style of music or a piece of music?” and “ What fascinates you in the way a singer/songwriter, lyricist or composer creates their work?” . There will be refreshments, and a small donation is requested.

Visit www.gaamc.org for additional information.
