County Assumes City Tax Collection
Morehead City has entered an agreement with Carteret County for our tax collection, and bills will be mailed in late August. This means that tax payments will no longer be paid directly to, or at, City Hall.
Taxes are delinquent if they are not paid in full by January 6th, 2025. Both Morehead City and Carteret County taxes will appear on the same bill, and a payment plan is available.

Big Rock Stadium Improvements Ahead
Improvements are coming to Big Rock Stadium by Spring 2025, and will be funded with $2 Million in state appropriations.
Big Rock Stadium, which is housed within Rotary Park, is home to the Morehead City Marlins, a Coastal Plain League collegiate baseball team. In addition, the space is utilized by other baseball teams for tournaments and community events.
“This will be a great economic driver for our City, as these improvements will offer an enhanced experience at Big Rock Stadium,” said Public Information Officer Anna Smith. “The stadium was first erected in 2010, and while there have been minor updates and additions over the years, this will be a substantial improvement for our residents and visitors.”
In July, the Morehead City Council approved a design-build contract with Bobbitt Construction of Wilmington to complete the work. The Council will later be presented a design concept to approve before work can begin. In all, three companies were interviewed as a part of the selection process.
Official updates pertaining to the future improvements and schedule will be shared online at moreheadcitync.org and on the City’s official social media outlets.
