Stuff the Cruiser: Teacher Edition

For the inaugural Stuff the Cruiser - Teacher Edition on August 17th, the Morehead City Police Department was able to fill two patrol vehicles full of donations that were then distributed to Morehead City teachers.

In addition to the public donating items from the wish list, MCPD received nearly $1,300 in monetary donations during the event. That money was immediately used to purchase more items from the teachers' wish list. Thank you to everyone who contributed, and to Wal-mart Supercenter staff for going above and beyond to help make this possible!

County Assumes City Tax Collection

A woman in glasses standing in front of the Morehead City seal and text.

Morehead City has entered an agreement with Carteret County for our tax collection, and bills were mailed in late August. This means that tax payments will no longer be paid directly to, or at, City Hall.

View our video below for some answers to common questions concerning this new collection method.

Taxes are delinquent if they are not paid in full by January 6th, 2025. Both Morehead City and Carteret County taxes will appear on the same bill, and a payment plan is available.

Have additional questions about the new process?

Morehead City Earns Budget Award

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) presented a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the Town of Morehead City for its Budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2024. In order to receive this award, a governmental unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as a financial plan, as an operations guide, and as a communications device.

Please join us in recognizing our staff, particularly in the finance department, for this great achievement!
