Celebrating International Women's Month with

Sue Foley: One Guitar Woman

Thursday, March 7 @ 7:30 pm - $50

Sue Foley's "ONE GUITAR WOMAN” - is a show devoted to the female pioneers of guitar. These are the women who were expressing themselves through the instrument as far back as the 1920's, at the inception of radio and recorded music. Icons like Maybelle Carter, Memphis Minnie, Mary Osborne, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and more. Sue Foley is a virtual triple threat as a lead guitarist, singer and songwriter.

Foley spent her early childhood in Canada, mesmerized by her father’s guitar and started her professional career at sixteen. By twenty-one, she was living in Austin, TX and recording for Antone’s—the esteemed blues label and historic nightclub that helped launch the career of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Foley just won the Blues Music Award for Traditional Blues Female Artist (Koko Taylor Award) in Memphis TN -- an award she also won in 2022 and 2020.

She was also recently honored with Guitarist of the Year and Blues Act of the Year at the at the 2023 Austin Music Awards, and Guitarist of the Year at the 2023 Maple Blues Awards. Celebrating these women of excellence, passion, and accomplishment, Sue presents an evening of varied guitar styles and musical genres interspersed with their history and stories, all tied together with her own personal narrative.

“It’s time to consider Foley among the very top tier of blues stars” - Bob Mersereau, CBC Radio 1

“Foley has a killer voice... to go with those blazing guitar chops.” — Philadelphia Inquirer

Great Lake Swimmers

The Happiness Mafia Presents: Great Lake Swimmers with special guest Melissa Payne a Four Winds Music Fest Concert Series. Great Lake Swimmers are a critically acclaimed indie-folk group led by songwriter/vocalist Tony Dekker. The Next Generation Leahy

As with all forces of nature, the music and energy created by The Next Generation Leahy simply cannot be contained. The drive to create music is powerful within each of the Leahy children. It has given rise to multi-instrumental talents, whose dynamic live performances have been described as “astounding” and “breath-taking.” For the last several years, Next Generation Leahy has performed across North America, and shared the stage with the likes of The Chieftains, We Banjo 3, The Tenors, and Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy.

Belying their young ages, these siblings are all accomplished multi-instrumentalists whose live performances are filled with the high-energy, infectious music associated with the Leahy name. However, not content to play only the music of their Celtic heritage, these musicians explore many genres of music and pull influences from far and wide. Fiddle, cello, French accordion, singing, piano, and French-Canadian step-dancing serve to bring their unique style of music to life.

"I’ve never experienced anything like this before. When they played with us, The Next Generation Leahy simply brought the house down!" ~ Paddy Moloney & The Chieftains The music that lives in each of these young people - which is so joyful, so positive, and so rare - overflows from them and affects audiences who have witnessed something truly unique and remarkable.

Pavlo

For those who have ever attended a Pavlo concert, you know that he and his band will take you on a Mediterranean escape like no other, as they perform Pavlo’s signature “feel-good” music. Opa!!

One of the most influential and respected guitarists of our time, internationally renowned, award-winning recording artist, performer and songwriter, Pavlo has become famous for bringing every audience to their feet.

Over the span of a 20 year career, Pavlo has released 11 albums of his own music, plus 2 collaborative albums and 3 television concert specials that continue to air on PBS across America and Canada. Born in Toronto to Greek parents, Pavlo has made a name for himself by offering a musical amalgam he simply calls “Mediterranean music”-a blend of Greek, flamenco, Latin, and even Balkan flavours, wrapped in contemporary pop. His music has taken him all around the world. Along the way he’s performed for royalty in the likes of King Charles and worked and toured with artists such as José Feliciano, Jon Secada, and Olivia Newton-John.

Pavlo is also known for his belief that “the world needs more guitars”. In fact, he gives away the guitar he performs with to a random member of the audience at every concert! What’s next? Pavlo is currently planning his 4th PBS concert special “Pavlo: Live In Santorini” and he remains driven by the words his father told him when he was a boy: “Have the courage to do what you love, and the drive to do it well.”
