Meet Olivia Fely

Satellite Community Coordinator

There is a new face at the CTV’s coworking center. Olivia Fely oversees the day-to-day needs for our Satellite members. Olivia grew up in Utah snowboarding the Sierras. After arriving in Santa Cruz, Oliva studied library science at UCSC and was invited to put her skills to use at the Vatican. Sadly, the project shelved when the pandemic emerged. An avid sports fan, Oliva is a camera operator for Stanford University Sports and also works with the Santa Cruz Warriors. Olivia was part of CTV’s government meeting production team prior to taking the reins in the coworking and digital media studio. A baker at heart, Oliva makes her own bread and bagels. Drop in on a Wednesday, and you’ll find she makes a pretty mean waffle too!

CTV Youth Grant Program

CTV Placed 50 PadCasters With The County Office of Education

Since 2015, CTV has provided video equipment grants for local organizations who teach youth entry level production skills that could lead to employment or higher education. The original packages were mini studios that could also be used in the field. In 2020, CTV launched its “Gro-Vid” equipment grant so kids could make content at home on their own. Grow-Vid supplies youth with Padcasters - high-quality video tools that are easy to use, require little to no instruction, fit neatly into a backpack and are appropriate for young to young adult students. CTV placed 25 Padcasters with Watsonville Parks and Community Services in 2021 and forty children experimented with our Padcasters. In 2022 we placed twenty-five Padcasters with the County Office of Education for use in classrooms. They created a curriculum for teaching digital storytelling with the Padcasters and held trainings in the CTV studio where teachers learned to use the gear. This year we placed 50 Padcasters with the County Office of Education. We were able to reach 1250 students who learned how to tell stories with digital media. All those stories appeared on CTV for friends, family and the greater community to enjoy.

Youth Animation Program

How do you get young people to write? CTV reeled them in with a class called "Animate Your Stories". CTV, in partnership with the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries funded 7 Animation Kits and has taught 5 sessions at the Capitola Branch Library. Students from 8 to 18 learned the basics of animation software while practicing story telling techniques. Their finished animations ran on Community TV's channels.
