Demolition of the eastside Las Lomas Apartments
Demolition is scheduled to begin on March 6, 2023. A more detailed schedule from UCI Design & Construction Services will be posted to the Area 12 page on the ICHA website within the next few weeks.
More OC Fire Authority Training
Following the last week’s successful training exercises, the OCFA will hold additional sessions at the vacant Las Lomas apartments the week of Feb 27 - March 3. Training hours will be 9:30am - 4:00pm. Trainings will generate fire engine and emergency response noise. In addition, the OCFA will use non-toxic artificial fog to simulate fire smoke. Training exercises may include:
- Simulated apartment fire (using artificial fog) that units will respond to.
- Fire captain size-up with strategy and objectives stated.
- Engine company will secure a water supply.
- Firefighters will deploy hose line, force apartment door and make access (no water flowed inside units).
- Firefighters will locate mannequin inside unit, rescue, and start treatment outside.
- Truck will conduct vertical ventilation by cutting a hole in the roof.
Cox Communications Work Is Scheduled for Next Week
On Monday, February 27, Cox and its subcontractor, Team Fishel, are scheduled to begin inspecting underground conduit for future use along E. Peltason Drive, Gabrielino Drive, and Vista Bonita Drive. Work may continue through the week if needed. Work hours: 8:00am - 3:00pm.
