Cal Oaks Sports Park Pool Update

Dive into new pool design and reconstruction

We want your input! help us make the Cal Oaks Sports Park Pool a great community resource for generations to come.

The Cal Oaks Sports Park Pool was constructed prior to the incorporation of the City of Murrieta, and was initially intended to cater to a population of under 50,000 individuals. For over three decades, the Murrieta Community Services team diligently maintained the pool to the best of their abilities. However, they were unable to integrate new technologies that would extend the pool's operation beyond a brief three-month summer period. The difficulties escalated in recent years due to the aging infrastructure and as a result it has been officially announced that after more than 30 years of serving the Murrieta community, the pool has now reached the "end of its useful life."

But that means we are ready for the design and reconstruction of a NEW Murrieta community pool and we want to hear from YOU

The City of Murrieta, in collaboration with RJM Design Group, is currently preparing for the California Oaks Sports Park Pool reconstruction project.

There are many ways to get involved:

đź’¦Explore the dedicated project website: CalOaksPool.com You can learn more about this exciting project and how to get involved in the upcoming community outreach process. This site will be updated regularly as the project progresses, so check back frequently to stay up to date with the latest news and conceptual design development of the Cal Oaks Sports Park Pool.

đź’¦Take the survey! It doesn't take long and will be very helpful as the project takes shape. Access the survey on the project website (CalOaksPool.com). The online survey is now open for 3 weeks from August 28 to September 18. The survey will also be available in paper format at community facilities. The survey results will be posted on the project website when available.

đź’¦Attend a public workshop: Save the date for the upcoming community gathering concerning the pool. The event is scheduled at Alderwood Park, 28622 Baxter Road, Murrieta, CA 92563, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 5.

The City of Murrieta eagerly awaits resident input on preferences for our future community pool.

Murrieta Fire & Rescue Awarded International Reaccredited Agency Status

The City is proud to share that Murrieta Fire & Rescue earned renewed accredited agency status from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International! This recognition is a result of MFR's commitment to excellence demonstrated through the voluntary self-assessment and accreditation program established by CFAI.

Including Murrieta Fire, there are only 22 accredited agencies in all of California and only 308 worldwide recognized by CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excellence, Inc.

In 2018, Murrieta Fire & Rescue became the first fully accredited fire agency in Riverside County. In 2019, the City of Riverside Fire Department joined this distinguished list. Only 13% of the U.S. population is served by an accredited fire agency.

The collective efforts of the peer assessors resulted in a unanimous recommendation for MFR's continued accreditation during the April site visit. The MFR accreditation team traveled to Chicago to appear before the Commission for Fire Accreditation International, which granted MFR an additional five years of accredited status, underscoring the agency's unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional fire and rescue services to the community.

Read more about this reaccreditation process on the City's website.

E-Bike Safety Update

The Murrieta Police Department is committed to maintaining strong ties with the community and providing clear information on critical matters. Recently, there has been some confusion surrounding the use of E-bikes by young individuals in Murrieta. Murrieta PD created an informational video that is available on their social media channels in an effort to bring clarity and proactively mitigate any potential legal complications. Here are some of the biggest takeaways.

Addressing Traffic Concerns

There has been an increase in complaints related to electric bicycle traffic. To ensure the safety of all individuals, it is crucial to have a clear understanding of the legal parameters that govern the use of E-bikes on the roads.

Understanding California Vehicle Code

E-Bikes fall under the category of standard bicycles if their maximum power does not exceed 750 watts and they provide assist up to 28 MPH.

E-Bike classifications:

Class 1: Pedal-assisted E-bikes with a maximum speed of 20 MPH.

Class 2: Throttle-assisted E-bikes, also limited to 20 MPH.

Class 3: Pedal-assisted E-bikes with a maximum speed of 28 MPH. (ages 16+)

Clarification on Off-Road E-Bikes

E-Bikes such as the Surron are exclusively meant for off-road use and are not street legal. With the ability to exceed speeds of 50 MPH, they must not be operated on roads, bike lanes, or sidewalks. Illegitimate use poses significant risks to riders, pedestrians, and motorists alike.

Enhanced Focus on Education and Enforcement

In response to the growing trend of unauthorized off-road E-bike usage, efforts have intensified by authorities with educational campaigns aimed at both young riders and parents. Enforcement measures, including the issuance of citations, may have implications for individuals seeking to acquire a driver's license.

Parental Responsibility

Parents should be aware that they can be held liable for permitting their children to operate off-road E-Bikes unlawfully.

Remember, the goal is to educate and ensure the safety of all individuals. If you have inquiries regarding E-bikes, don't hesitate to contact the Murrieta Police Department's Traffic Division at 951-696-3615.

Preparing for Santa Ana Winds

The time of year is approaching when the danger of Santa Ana wind-driven wildfires will become more widespread. Being ready is important for both residential and commercial property owners. Establishing sufficient defensible space on properties plays a critical role in aiding firefighters' efforts to control fires. Although it was a very wet rainy season, the vegetation has since dried completely, warranting its prompt removal. Individuals seeking further information should visit the fire prevention bureau's webpage or call 951-304-3473.

Responding to Fires and Rescues: Oregon, California, and Hawaii

The Murrieta Fire Department's actively extends their support to various ongoing national crises. Three dedicated firefighters have been stationed in Oregon to tackle the Lookout Fire, while a Chief leads efforts against a blaze in Northern California. Additionally, four of the department's firefighters have been deployed to assist the Search and Rescue Team in Maui, Hawaii.

City of Murrieta Legislative Updates

Advocating for the interests of residents and businesses

Throughout each year, the State Legislature and the United States Congress propose and enact legislation, some of which affect local municipal government. The City of Murrieta recognizes the need for active legislative engagement at the local, state, and federal levels to enhance the interests of Murrieta’s residents and businesses.

At times, it is in the best interest of the City to take a position on proposed legislation. Recently, the City issued four letters regarding positions on key legislative matters that impact Murrieta:

  1. SB 75: Court: Judgeships – Support
  2. SB 46: Controlled Substances Treatment – Support
  3. SB 423: By-right Housing Approvals, Multifamily Housing Developments, SB 35 Expansion – Oppose
  4. AB 309: Social housing Program – Oppose Unless Amended
