Winter Safety Tips:
Winter is a season of warmth, gatherings, and festivities. However, it's also a season that poses unique fire hazards, making winter fire safety a top priority.
-
Decorative Lighting: Check lights before installing: You need to inspect lights before hanging them outside or on trees. If there are damaged cords or frayed wires, replace or repair them.
-
Heating Safety: When it gets cold out, we usually need to use heating appliances, but it's important to be careful when using them. Make sure your furnace, fireplace, or space heater gets maintained and serviced regularly. If the system is running fine, there's less of a chance for it to be a fire hazard.
-
Candle Safety: Candles create a warm and comfortable atmosphere in the winter. Consider opting for a battery-powered candle for a flame-free option that will still give the candle ambiance.
-
Holiday Decorations: Keep flammable decorations away from heat sources. Don't put any decorations made from paper, fabric, or other flammable materials near fireplaces, space heaters, or candles.

Murrieta Police Department
Partners with our community
The Murrieta Police Department partners with multiple City departments and other regional organizations to address homelessness in Murrieta. Recently, they shared tips with community members and businesses to help combat the issue.
Here are a few:
- As a community member or business owner, please notify the City or police department whenever you see an encampment being setup.
- Please discourage anyone from providing homeless panhandlers with money.
- Encourage business owners who are being impacted by homeless individuals to submit a 602 - No Trespassing letter to the City of Murrieta. This allows the City to take enforcement action.
- Volunteer for the annual Point in Time homeless count. It's a great way to get involved and see what is happening on the streets.
