Murrieta Fire & Rescue
Power Up Safely: Lithium Battery Tips from Murrieta Fire
Lithium batteries: They power our phones, laptops, and even cars! But these energy powerhouses need careful handling to avoid fiery mishaps.
| |
|
Use Wisely:
- Keep it cool: Avoid extreme temperatures. Don't leave batteries in hot cars or direct sunlight.
- Don't force it: If a battery doesn't fit, stop! Forcing it can damage the casing and lead to overheating.
- Mind the mix: Don't mix different brands or types of batteries in the same device.
| |
|
Charge Cautiously:
- Use the correct charger: Stick to the charger that came with your device or one specifically designed for its battery type.
- Unplug with care: Don't yank the cord! Gently remove the plug to avoid damaging the connection.
- Never leave unattended: Always monitor charging, especially for overnight sessions.

Discard Diligently:
- Recycle, don't toss: Lithium batteries shouldn't go in the trash. Find local recycling centers or designated bins.
- Protect the terminals: Cover the positive and negative ends with tape before recycling or storing.
- Store safely: Keep spare batteries in a cool, dry place, away from flammable materials.

By following these simple tips, you can enjoy the convenience of lithium batteries without the heat of a fire. Remember, Murrieta Fire & Rescue is always here to help! Visit our website for more safety resources or call us at (951) 304-FIRE (3473) for any questions. Let's keep Murrieta fire-free, one battery at a time!
