Message from the City Manager
April 2024
We saw quite a bit of rain over the weekend! It's always nice to get rain in California but the sunshine is welcomed, especially on days we host events. As we begin to dry out we can look forward to warmer days, allowing us to spend time outdoors soaking in the sun's rays. April is going to be packed with activities for the entire family.
Check out what's happening in Murrieta, exploring the latest City events, programs, and news in this edition of More Murrieta:
- Join us for our annual Touch-a-Truck event
- Learn more about Tour de Murrieta
- Mark your calendars for Murrieta Fire & Rescue's annual BBQ
- Check out upcoming events you won't want to miss
Vibrant, warm days are ahead and we are glad to be Connected by Community.
Sincerely,

The Murrieta Public Library is hosting its annual Touch-a-Truck event happening tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Town Square Park. This year's event promises to be even more exciting than ever before, with more than 20 vehicles available for touring and picture-taking. Families can look forward to exploring various emergency response vehicles, including fire trucks and police cars, as well as public works vehicles.
This year we've added new features to the event, including a trackless train ride, food vendors, exhibitors, a live local band, lawn games, and a sensory room for families to sneak away to get some quiet time. Additionally, from 9 -10 a.m., there will be a quiet hour when there will be no horns or sirens, for children with noise sensitivities. The event ends at 1 p.m.

Murrieta Fire & Rescue (MFR) is hosting its 77th annual Firefighter’s BBQ on Saturday, April 13, at Murrieta’s Town Square Park. The Murrieta Firefighter’s BBQ is one of Riverside County’s longest-running events. As is the tradition, barbecue guests will enjoy a smoked tri-tip lunch, music, a beer and wine garden, a bag-toss tournament, and a vendors’ market. Attendees will also get to cheer on fire cadets from throughout Southern California in the annual Fire Cadets “Muster” Competition. The event is free and open to the public with a nominal fee for the barbecue lunch.

Community Services Department Updates
Master Plan Public Workshops
| |
|
Have you attended one of our Master Plan Workshops? We are looking for community input as the City is currently updating its Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which was last updated in 2009, and it is moving forward with its first-ever Trails Master Plan.
These master plans will allow for long-range planning that provides policy guidance for future land use, park and amenity development, infrastructure, services, programming, and events. As a community that values connection, the City is seeking input from its residents. Each master plan will have three in-person workshops.
The public can learn more and contribute input on the vision, goals, and direction for the plan and the City’s future, especially as it relates to multi-use trails, e-bikes, and trail connectivity.
Parks and Recreation Master Plan Workshop #2:
Date: Wednesday, April 17, 2024
Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: Murrieta Senior Center, 5 Town Square, Murrieta, CA 92563

Date: Tuesday, April 23, 2024

Murrieta Police Department
The Murrieta Police Department participated in the Baker to Vegas race on March 23 and 24. This year they ran the race in 17 hours and 13 minutes, an improvement of 31 minutes from last year. They placed eighth out of seventeen in the 150 category, giving them their first mug. This is only their third race in this category and they competed with teams that have 30-40 more officers. All 20 runners returned home sore but healthy, including our own Chief Conrad, who ran leg 20 and crossed the finish line for the team!

City Hall Annex
Recently the City of Murrieta moved two departments across the street to what is now called the City Hall Annex building. As the city grows, so does the organization. This move allows for more space to hire more employees. Human resources and Community Services staff are in the new offices.

Wednesday, April 10, is Murrieta Public Library’s 25th Birthday! The Library has been at its present location since March 2007; before that, we opened in 1999 and were in a 4,500 square feet building at 39589 Los Alamos Road. Since that date, we have grown literally and exponentially – and the Library could not have done it without you, our wonderful community! With that in mind, starting Wednesday, April 10, and continuing throughout April, we encourage members of our community to write down their favorite memories of the Library on a provided slip of paper. These slips can then be deposited into the Memory Box at the Adult Reference Desk. Each submission qualifies to win a $25 Amazon gift card!
The Library will be closed for the Tour de Murrieta bike race on Saturday, April 6, 2024. No items will be due that day.

At times, it is in the City's best interest to take a position on proposed legislation.
